Agreed. I wouldn't be caught dead with an out of warranty M car. Even CPO is quite limited

Just to double up on my point, would anyone pay extra for 6MT if the tables switched? They already decided to offer 8speed as a free option on the F30. What if the G20 came out and the 8speed was free but the 6MT was +$1500?
Absolutely, with 0 hesitation

My preference goes

ZF Auto > MT > DCT

People are way too attached to the manuals. I can see it being a selling point in the E46 days, E90 even, when the automatics were bulky and slow, but with how good things have become now on the ZF 8 Speeds, it is just a wash. Sure 6 speeds are fun and provide a unique experience but when you really break it down the new Autos are magnificent.

Faster, better efficiency, quicker shifts, don't need to take your hands off the wheel, and so forth. Love my F30 340i with the ZF Auto, and have had many manual cars in the past to compare it to. With <3% of people buying them, the market speaks.
I know this sounds jaded, but you really do have to just let it go. On an M3, I would probably choose the 6MT over a DCT because the DCT just sounds.... expensive. But on a normal 3 series, I wouldn't opt in on the manual even if it were there.

I didn’t plan to prolong this further. However, if your conclusion is correct, you’re simply describing a lack of foresight. The primary burden always rests with the writer. He demonstrated how easy it would have been to be clear originally with the simple restatement in the subsequent post. All we have on these forums are words...no tone of voice, body language, nor facial expressions. It is helpful to take the time to write carefully what is intended to be communicated to avoid these tangents. Yes, I was that instructor who also graded my business students for grammar and spelling.

The question was would I pay a premium for a manual. My response was "yes". He didn't ask if manuals should go away. Would I never buy an automatic? Of course not but I'd pay a premium to get the same car in a manual.

A lot of people comment under an assumption that we think 6MT is somehow better. I know it's not better, it's worse than 8ZF in every measurable category. However 6MT is just more fun and engaging

For sure. At the end of the day, it is a shame that they are less available or not at all, but I suppose the thing for me is just the futility of it all as the writing has just been on the wall.

Mostly just pointing out that the other options are pretty great and loads of fun as well if people are open to them. The one I don't really care for is the DCT as they just seem like a maintenance nightmare and liability to own out of warranty. Agree that it would be at least nice to have the option there, but it's clearly not happening.

Doug provides a perspective from the viewpoint of a car lover who doesn't wrench, track, or modify. He's non-threatening and somewhat amusing, which is why his channel is successful. I enjoy pretty much all his reviews even though I don't necessarily agree with some of his opinions.

I love Doug's videos, but you are spot on. Nothing wrong at all with not being a track guy either, most people aren't. In fact, most people who want a fast BMW say they want it to handle well, then only compare 0-60 times and are still on run-flats

My biggest problem with Doug will always be his insistence that the paddles be column mounted. For chrissake Doug, stop shifting when your full lock into a turn!

I've bought two new BMWs with manuals. I won't buy a new BMW without a manual. I would happily pay MORE for one if it costs more to offer the manual.

Their loss. My retirement account thanks them. Or Porsche will.

Of course the manual is better. What makes it better is that I like it better. Nothing else really matters.
