I almost pulled the trigger on a triple black, but I am glad I waited for this color. I get compliments on the color all the time. In the sun she really shines.

M340i owners: how happy are you with your purchase?
I have yet to drive it but am planning on either picking up a M340i or 330i in the coming weeks. I used to drive a JB4 N55 and was absolutely in love with the car. How does M340i compare? Is it worth the extra 20k over the 330i?

I do not currently have a three series, I have an X5. It's been in the shop a handful of times in the last year for service - and my dealer always gives me a brand new BMW for a loaner. I've had new 330i's several times (not the G series the prior gen) and just this weekend I had my car back in for service and they gave me an M340i. So while I'm not shopping for these cars - I consider myself a car guy and am always really interested in the car and what it drives like, what options it has, etc. There are numerous little cosmetic differences between the two cars but the biggest difference is going to be the power plant. The M340i is a LOT faster than the 330. A LOT. I've test driven an F80 M4 and M340i, while NOT an M3, the M340i does an amazing job at attempting to replicate the fun and sporty aspects from the true M cars. Well the acceleration isn't quite as fast as the M3 it's really really really close. I think the new M3 48 is so good that you're going to see people like myself who are dead set on picking up an M3 questioning that purchase and having to do serious thinking about what their actual priorities are. Nobody who is considering a F80 M3 would bother to consider the 330i The 330 and M340 really are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. If these cars were on a scale from 1 to 10 the 330 is a two or three and the 340 is an 8. the f80 M3 is a nine and the new M3 will be the 10. For someone like me it wouldn't even be a question I would not even want to buy the 330. while it's a great car that probably is more than enough power for the majority of purchasers it's not enough for someone like me. Test drive the 330, and then the 340. drive it really hard - hammer it - not just the first gear but let the car keeps pulling into 2nd and .3rd. Take it out on the freeway and while cruising at 65 drop the hammer and feel it pull from 65 to 100. Yes after you do that you are giggling and smiling and can't get the grin off your face it's the car for you - if that's not something you would enjoy save your money and get the 330. The 330 is going to be a great all-around Daily Driver - the new technology - iDrive, CarPlay, digital dash, driver assistance - is awesome. It really comes down to are you content with 250 hp or do you need closer to 400.

Extremely happy. I am coming from a 2017 Focus ST. The interior is obviously a tremendous leap but the performance and the driving modes are continuing to blow my mind every single time I drive the car. I am very excited for the aftermarket ecosystem for the G20 platform. I test drove the M340i first and then the 330i. I was initially more confident pushing the 330i harder maybe because I was used to the ST. I specced out a 330i which came up to 54K and it made sense to upgrade to the M340i given the price difference. I am trying to find every excuse to take the car out lol.

Very happy! This is my 4th 3 series and it's by far the most powerful and refined I've had thus far. Would def recommend.

Hey guys,
Does anyone else notice a lag when you go wot in Sport+ mode. Not in throttle response but more of like a turbo lag where 0-15mph it accelerates slowly and then after that you feel all the power. I'm coming from a 2017 440i Gran Coupe xDrive and the M340 is definitely way faster but with the 440 when I would floor it I would feel the full power instantly. On the m340 it feels like it's holding back the power till 15mph or so. I thought maybe its a traction thing but I have tried it on Sport Traction mode and with traction off all together. I also thought maybe the computer limits the acceleration of the line during break in period but now i have 1300 miles. |

It's probably the computer holding it back to ensure enough traction off the line. Try using launch control and see what it feels like. I haven't gotten enough miles on mine yet to be able to try that out.

Took delivery on Monday, coming from an F30 340i M Sport (Sloppy Sally). Love it so far, feels like driving the future.
TL;DR - It’s larger, faster, quieter, built like a tank, driving dynamics are great, and it’s buggy. Driving - Comfort mode = Lexus mode. Not necessary a bad thing when toting your parents around. Sport modes bring out the alter ego. The exhaust burbling and popping literally turns heads. Handling is night and day vs. F30 and it's very fast. Quality - Major improvement. Everything inside the F30 cabin squeaked or creaked when pressed on. The G20 is tight as a drum. I never thought shutting a door could sound so satisfying Safety stuff - Lane departure steering intervention is freaky. Nothing like merging onto a freeway and panicking when the steering wheel locks up. Yeah I know, use my turn signal… HK - Audio is subjective but I think it sounds more refined than the F30 HK with improved imaging and clarity. Doesn’t seem to play as loud or have the same heavy (dirty) bass dynamics though. CarPlay - WTH BMW? Half the time my iPhoneX won’t connect when I get in the car then I have to disable/enable wi-fi to reconnect. Sometimes it’ll connect when I get into the car then drop as I back out of the driveway. Curious if the transition from home wi-fi to car wi-fi is the culprit. On the plus side sound quality is excellent. Anyone concerned that wireless CarPlay sounds like Bluetooth can relax. I assume the wi-fi connection is not compressing the source. More stuff: The power door lock/unlock buttons are now on the doors Seat memory buttons are now on the door The hot/cold air mixer on the center vent is gone The turn signal now stays up or down when activated Blind spot warning indicators are now in the side mirror glass, easier to see The SOS button is further back. No more opening the lid when trying to open the sunroof! |

The steering intervention would be the first thing I'd turn off. To date I've not driven a car, of any make, that had safety systems that I found effective. They're always far too sensitive and result in an alarm beeping any time I simply back up in a garage. These systems beep and intrude so often I become more nervous when they're actually quiet for more than 5 seconds. They remind me of current spell-check technology. It needs some clever refinement before it's ideally adapted to everyday, real world scenarios.

I was honestly disappointed.
Great powertrain, and it handles well enough and will put up solid numbers. But it's just too refined and isolated. Does not come anywhere near rekindling the magic of the E90 and prior models. I have to suspect that anybody who thinks this car is "fun" either (a) has never driven a pre-F30 BMW and/or (b) is a straight line acceleration junkie and doesn't know what steering feel or weight is. It's off my shopping list. All BMW makes for people like me now is the M2. Everything else does not feel like it comes from the brand I so dearly loved.

Have you test driven a Genesis G70 or Alfa Giulia? I'd love to hear your perspective on those two vehicles. From what it seems those two are the top two class leaders from what I've been reading (haven't had the time myself to test drive one myself). I'm very interested in the Genesis myself, but the dealership network doesn't seem ready yet in my opinion. At this point, I think I'll probably just end up with a C43, that one seems to interest me the most in terms of driving dynamics, design, interior, but I'll wait till the M Town Tour to make my decision (I plan on doing back to back test drives of the G70 3.3TT, M340i, C43, Giulia) Good luck! I hope you find something that you really like

Just finished test driving the M340i at an MTown Tour here in LA and I have to admit I enjoyed that short test drive more than my M3. It was comfortable but agile at the same time. Makes me excited for the next gen M3 even more. Only part I disliked is maybe the speedometer and all the buttons in the center. But driving experience was awesome.

I personally like the interior and enough room for two car seats. In comfort mode the car feels like a mini van heavy and slow lol but in sport plus the car is extremely fun to drive and I don't think i have taken it out of sport since getting it.. I don't like the fake noise that ASD puts out and trying to figure out how to disable it also looking to see if I can keep both valves open all the time. |

Idk forget my own impressions, none of the reviews out have been very positive on the steering either. Regardless, congrats. Overall it's the segment leader.

While the handling is better than the f30, it's not great. I expected it would be a lot more athletic than my g30 530i m-sport but it was only marginally more engaging while being significantly less comfortable both in terms of ride quality and seating comfort. You're basically giving up a lot of comfort and hardly gaining any engagement. I loved my e90, and was hoping the g20 would feel more like that, but it doesn't measure up. The arm rest on the g20 is too narrow too. I never had an issue fitting my elbow on the arm rest on my e90, e36 or g30 but the g20 didn't work for me. The interior overall on the g20 is nice looking but feels a bit cheap, especially the door panels. After driving the m340 I took an m2c out. I expected it would not be a great daily but it's actually better than the m340 as a daily. The suspension in the m2c is more compliant than the m340 even though it's firmer. The m2c dampens initial impacts better than the m340. The seats in the m2c are much more comfortable and more supportive and the seating position is better than the m340. I really wanted to like the g20 as the concept of having a refined but sporty every day car is exactly what I want, but it just didn't live up to my expectation. Luckily I do not need the back seats and will just go the m2c route instead |

Tires make a lot of difference when you're comparing sportiness and comfort between M2C and M340i. You can't really compare RFTs to PS4S. I wouldn't say the M340i feels like an M2C but RFTs aren't helping it.

Please make a thread on your impressions of all the vehicles after those test drives! I drove the 340 at the M town tour....just seconds after driving the M2 Comp. Don't get me wrong, the 340 is far from crap to drive. It just isn't as raw as I'd like.
