Playstation 3 - is it worth buying?

I haven't owned a video game system for the longest time. The only one I owned was the original Nintendo NES system that came with Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt. You see, I grew up with computers, so I wasn't too excited about game systems. Hey, back then, I could play multiplayer games with strangers online... back in the 80's!!!! Is the Playstation 3 worth buying? Are the games better than the games on the PC? Is it a good value system as it comes with a BlueRay player?
