Windshield wipers are mediocre

Is it me or does bmws windshield wipers seem mediocre in cleaning the windshield during rainy weather?

When I use my wipers I always notice it barely cleans the water off with out leaving a thin layer. Almost like using a paper towel to clean up a water spill but the paper towel is too wet.

Wondering if there's a fix for this? I think I had this issue with my f30s aswell.

Maybe it's just me but my GF also noticed and complained about it.

Yes. It's not the best unfortunately. Thankfully I haven't driven it in the rain too much so I've left it as it is for the time being.

I was kind of annoyed by this but then I recently coated my windshield with turtlewax ceramic spray coating and now I hardly even need to use the wipers bc the water beads away so quickly. I was amazed on the highway the other day-pouring rain but I could see clearly without the wipers. Try it. Pretty cheap and the coating lasts a while. I suppose any clear wax coating would work too.

Huh... mine seem to be okay. No better or worse than any other car I've owned.

Bucking the trend - I am impressed with the wipers on mine - much better and certainly much quieter than my f34.

One of the things that could affect performance is not cleaning the windscreen properly after washing the car - any shampoo/wax product will leave deposits on the windscreen. I use a concentrated household window cleaner - the consistency of water, not the cream stuff - on a cloth on mine, works a treat both inside and out.

I actually like them especially how the fluid comes out of the arms directly. My only annoyance is that it squirts a little too much washer fluid up near the top of the windshield so once it's done cleaning, you have to manually do a few more sweeps of the windshield or you'll get a washer fluid drip right down the center of the windshield (first world problems I know).

Interesting, I think I'm going to try this. Thanks

They're superior to the ones on my old Lexus 3IS. Those could t handle the heavy rains we get during hurricane season. I had little to no visibility during the heavy downpours with that damn car.

As a result, I had to crawl. These are superior in every way and I should know since we have hurricane season from May thru November yearly, where the rains are what one would consider atrocious.

This sounds like some kind of wax got on your windows.

I'm also with something contaminating the screen.

BMW wipers are designed for heavy rain, should wipe without losing any visibility. Any lose of a completely 'clear' screen, like smearing or hazing, is contamination on the blades and/or the glass.

Clay bar is best to decontaminate glass. Get a new set of wiper blades and decontaminate your glass with even a cheap clay bar. It will provide a nice smooth surface for the wipers to work.

Usually Bosch Icons are an upgrade to stock blades, but BMW stock blades should work fine.

Besides poor vision while wiping, contamination is also a key reason for auto sensing wipers not working perfectly.

Glass coatings can also contribute to the auto sensing not working correctly.

Ahh so that's where the fluid is sprayed from on this car... never really looked but always wondered lol.

Strange-everyone is talking about coatings making the wipers ineffective but mine work much better. Granted I only coated the windshield and not the blades themselves.

Also true. But there are different coatings. This case sounds like the one not helping.

I'm confused now with all the different perspectives. Unless the dealer put a coating. The only thing I can think of is wax from the car wash. I put nothing on my car in that sense.

I will try the turtle wax or something. It's suppose to rain tommorow

Carwash wax is known for causing streakes. It is also known for not lasting long...

I'm not sure I like the washer jets on the wiper arms. They don't spray the entire time I pull the stalk and and passenger side is not effective in cleaning the windshield in any circumstance.
