Respect the hug
As a first time BMW owner, one of the small subtleties that I've come to love is the seat belt "hug"! Not sure if this is a "BMW thing" or not, but it's very comforting after a long day at work. Lol
It's the little things in life...

It’s there in the higher end Audis too. My A7 and ex-A6 have/had it. But the B9 cars don’t. I kinda like the hug but my wife hates it and asks the car to stop strangling her when that happens

It is one of the dumbest features that no one needs. Claustrophobic people panic. Not at all a fan of the digital gauges either. AN I the only one that has trouble seeing the rich and speedo? Why is it all red? WTF

It's an actual safety feature. It knows exactly how tight to make the seat belt in the event of an accident. It's pretty clever. And it reminds you to fix your posture if you're a sloucher.

The hug is a little weird at first, but I am finally getting used to being secured by my car. |

My 530e, with the luxury seating package, not only cinches up the seat belt but after I fasten the seat belt, the wings of the seat closeup around me. I love it.
But seats are very particular and the forum is filled with folks who love a particular seat and others who hate it. I think it may also have to do with body size and style. |

The car also apparently detects rear end collisions and adjusts seatbelt tension accordingly in the nick of time.

"Pinning you into the seat"? It's hardly that dramatic

We're on our 3rd MB suv and they have all had this, but it's much more gentle than BMW's system. In an MB it is part of the PRE-SAFE system. The belts tightening are part of the system measuring your body mass.

Yes my roommate has a GLC and I had to drive it one time. It was my first time ever being in the car and wasn't expecting it. I think it's a nice little touch.
