Good news for Ferrari for sure and to the comment about Alonso being rusty, Really? The man is on point, the problem here is wunderkind Vettel. The guy paired with the RB beast is almost unbeatable. The kid is just that good. Best of luck to KR in his new ride, I hope they can at least try to keep it competitive.

OK, you're all rewriting history. For Alonso's 2005 championship, Schumi/Ferrari were a distant 3rd to Kimi/McLaren. On the other hand, Alonso lost out on 3 more championships by 1, 4, and 3 points, respectively. So yes, Fernando's already proven to be an exceptional driver. And in 2008, Massa was 1 point off the championship, finishing ahead of both Kimi and Fernando. So Massa's no hack either, although he seems to be past his prime now.

True that winning is winning but there's no denying Massa's talent. Whether or not he is past his prime, well I think the jury is still out on that. It very well may be the case but I certainly hope he signs with a decent team and stays in F1. He may be the nicest guy in all of racing. Just cant route against him.

Well, that's my point. We won't know how good Alonso is driving these days until we see another top tier driver with the same machinery. Maybe the Ferrari is not that bad, but it's just being driven by two guys who lost their mojo?
If Kimi outdrives Alonso, we will have our answer.

About Alonso beating Schumi and Ferrari in their prime, it's debatable. Maybe Alonso just was the first to beat them AFTER their prime had past.

Ferrari & Schumacher were not at their "zenith" that year. Alonso scored more than twice the points of Schumacher, only Kimi was close.

Most people think it's the other way around, especially those who are paying Alonso. Fernando (and to some degree, Kimi) are commonly thought of as getting the absolute maximum out of inferior cars. That's why they both placed much higher in the championship than their team qualifying stats would suggest.

Also, the drivers who filled-in for the injured Massa completely sucked, despite being seasoned veterans. So the common wisdom is that Massa's about as good as many of the other top drivers, but Alonso's a step above.

Massa is good there's no denying that...so what seat would he take in F1 next year? None have the car nor the salary that would appeal to him. The only spot i can envision him is with Lotus but it seems likely that Hulk will take seat. Maybe Sauber? Or maybe he'll join his friend TK on the Indy circuit

So we should ignore 2006, Alonso's second championship.

Where Alonso won 7 races and Schumy won 7 races. Schumy finished second in the championship and Massa finished 3rd.

Ferrari was clearly on their game in 2006. You also can't deny Ferrari was the giant of sport prior to Alonso's arrival at the front.

Ferrari was one blown motor away from a Title in 2006 at Japan.

+1 Alonso and Kimi are both relentless. I can't see Kimi "moving" aside so that Alonso can pass. Either way, adds drama to a season that has lately been dominated by Vettel's 10+ second victories.

Massa really hasn't been the same since his accident in Hungary when he was hit by the spring from Rubens B's car. And what that didn't take out of him, the whole 'Fernando is faster than you' episode took.

If Alonso was picking up championships like Schumacher did, Ferrari would probably be happy with a loyal #2 who accepts the role. It will be interesting to see how Kimi and Alsonso co-exist.

According to this:
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...3/9/14974.html

Domenicali is adamant that the two will work well together and help each other. We'll see how that actually plays out though...

All true, and yes, Ferrari were competitive in '06, but not the juggernaut they were in the early 2000's.

I'm very much looking forward to an all Alpha-male Ferrari lineup!

Actually, Sauber does seem likely for Massa. Ferrari supplies their engines...it'd more a more natural move if Sirotkin doesn't take Hulkenberg's seat.

I don't even like to be reminded of those seasons, I remember the Schumy/Ferrari days like it was yesterday. Not being a Ferrari or Schumy fan, it was difficult to watch. When Alonso came along it was a giant breath of fresh air for the sport, watching some of Schumy/Alonso battles pumped some energy back into the sport (at least it did for me). Ferrari didn't just dominate, they annihilated the competition (especially 01 and 02), even beyond what Red Bull is doing today.

2003 was a very close season. I think in all the years I've been watching F1, that was my favorite. Kimi nearly took it from MS, and I absolutely loved watching JPM stuff Schumi on more than one occasion. JPMs pass on Schumacher in the bus stop in 2004 is my favorite overtake in F1.

Do not like Ferrari, do not like Schumacher. Do like Kimi. I am in a quandry.
