That 60k markup has me at a strong no. Get a 991.2 and save the money you would have gifted the dealer.

Another comment just to echo this. The salesman used typical sales tactics. Made the OP feel as if he had to commit immediately or the "deal" would be gone. I guarantee he wasn't the first, or fifth, person that was called that day. The $60K markup is NOT the sign of a deal. They're going to keep running down the list until they find someone willing to pay them an extra $60K in profit OVER the other profit that they would already get if you paid MSRP. If they can't find someone at $60K, it'll be $50K and on and on. That's not a deal, nor a favor. Sure, someone out there will pay it, that's why they're asking... but does it have to be you?

GT3's aren't a 300k driving experience. $60k over is just ridiculous.

I'm interested in how you're defining "millionaire." Do you mean net worth of $1M+ (the correct definition), or an annual income of $1M+? There's a big difference. If you're using the correct net worth definition, and you're not there yet, this seems like a bad idea.

Asking about buying a Porsche in a BMW Forum? What do you expect the responses to be? LOL.

I’ve never liked Porsche. My brother has had at least 5 over the past 20 years and I’ve driven most.

All that said if you REALLY wanted it, and could afford the payments, you likely would have just done it and not have saught opinions from a bunch of strangers. My guess is you really don’t want it that bad.

Good luck with your decision!

I neglected to mention that I reached out to him a month or so back inquiring about GT3s before I knew that they weren't even selling them, and about the ADM etc.

However, I see what you're getting at, and that was one of my first bullet points: I think the GT3 mania era is on its way out the door.

About a week before I got this call I had already decided I would never pay more than MSRP, but then I got the call and FOMO took over. That's why I came here–to hear some voice of reason and talk me down .

I just turned 45, and I was planning to put ~$70K down if I did it, but still, it is insane, which is why I came here. I'm glad you guys didn't all egg me on.

I'll take that extra few grand a month and invest/save it and buy a GT3 when I can afford to pay cash and not miss the money (if that ever is the case).

Pretty much has been covered. I’m on the side that says pass - if you were in a position to pay cash or close to doing so, then even with the ADM (I wouldn’t pay the ADM), then go for it.

But as I get older (57) and a car and bike guy, I’m trying to figure out what’s important. I was talking with my local Porsche dealer about a GT3 (I’m on their list…). I’ve had my 997 GT3 for about 5.5 years. Paid cash for it and it’s gone up 50+%. Cars are paid for. New Multi PP last year that just turned 10k miles is paid for. All else on track for retirement in the next 2-5 yrs. I love the idea of buying a new GT3 but really not sure I would do it. My GT3 and $80–90k. FOMO? Missing out on what? Being a GT3 owner and all that entails? While the driving experience is great, it’s not unattainable with other, more affordable cars. I spec’ed out and ordered a new GT4 back in 2016. Getting a new car to my spec wasn’t that big of a deal to me. But it may be to you.

We all know the GT3 is great and if one can be owned with little financial impact or risk, sure, of course, do it. And there are plenty of guys where these numbers are rounding errors. But for most of us, there are real implications.

Good luck with your decision.

Normally I’m a YOLO type and would say get the Porsche! However, the ADM would be a hard no for me. I completely get that the Porsche market is different than the BMW market, but to me personally, no car is worth buying if there is an ADM even if it’s just a few thousand dollars. $60k is a hard no. That ADM is nothing but pissing money down the toilet, especially at the rate you’d have to be financing it at.

I will echo the majority here. Please PASS this deal.

I would never buy a car above MSRP. I understand your heart stimulating your YOLO appetite but this is beyond the logical limits. As others have said, I would wait for an allocation without ADM or go for a lighty used 18 or 19.

Hard pass, there are so many GT3's with less than 2500 miles LISTED for $250K. I think if you walk into a dealership that has one and started negotiations at $225K you'd walk out with a car that same day.

You aren't lucky, you were being targeted. Think about it logically, why would they call you and not their higher valued clients, it's because they've passed on the deal.

The market is softening, give it some time and put yourself in the ideal position to buy the car you want. Make the buying decision yours, not the other way around.

There’s no way I’d pay that ADM, have to finance at 7% and lose 20K on an existing car. I’m in a much better financial position than you and I wouldn’t even consider it.

This is a really good point. And by that token, get a 991.1 S and save even more money and still with a NA flat 6.

My dealership didn’t even entertain Porsche Finance for a loan. Got me 5.5% at BoA on a MSRP deal and no trade. Granted that wasn’t a GT car, but I doubt it would have played out differently if it was.

With that said OP, I seriously doubt you’ll be able to finance that much and you absolutely won’t be able to finance over MSRP. 60k ADM is reasonable, but it sounds like the decision is being forced so I say pass.

I say hard pass.

No way would i piss $60k ADM. no way would I pay 7% interest. No way would I pay $5k per month for a car…no matter what it is.

Perhaps I’m just getting older (51), but I’d sooner take several dream vacations with my family and build fantastic/unforgettable memories than spend that kind of money on a car.

My spec’d out ‘23 M3CX is fully paid for and unless I win the lottery, it will represent the pinnacle of my car purchases. Too much living ahead to be restricted financially by a machine.

My 2 cents.

I'm honestly shocked by the responses here. As long as it doesn't cripple you financially, a car like this is not a financial decision, it's an emotional one. If you can afford it and you're not jeopardizing your current and future financial situation, go for it - you never know when the holy grail of cars will be in your future again.

And for those saying to get yourself a used 991, that's certainly an option, but for me, speccing one out to my exact specification is a HUGE plus. Buying a used one would never feel like it's mine... it'll always feel like something that once belonged to someone else and was built for someone else.

According to OP.... what qualifies as the "holy grail of cars" is a personal view for the person interested in purchasing one. It may not be to you or me, but if it is to OP then that's all that matters.
