I don’t understand one thing. Is this update for iDrive only? Or is it an update of all the blocks in the car?

Does this actually work and do you have footage of it? Tried it at the dealers but kept saying it didn't understand me.

I had my car in to the dealer on Monday (7/29) and they were addressing some of the issues that I was having w/ CarPlay and the NFC reader. They updated the software this morning.
Did the update help with Carplay & NFC activation?

I can't even get the useless POS bmw connected App to add my vehicle.

My 10 year old daughter could code a more effective app.

The fact folks have various versions of iDrive on their cars, but the app and iDrive indicate no update is available, is evidence that BMW hasn't enabled (or figured out how to) remote/OTA updates.

Also frustrating that some dealers seem to be aware of the most recent updates available, whereas others seem completely uninformed.

We have folks with below versions currently (in this thread alone):

2019.37
2019.38
2019.39
2019.60

Isn't the number before the /2019 more important than the one afterwards (which seems to be some kind of patch level)? There seem to be folks on 3/2019.XX and some on 7/2019.XX (see e.g. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2&postcount=23) - There are release notes for a "19-03" version on the BMW website, so I assume "19-07" is the upcoming new version that JayPichardo was talking about (though it would sure be nice if he could mention version it is).

Thanks for noticing that.

To be honest, I have no idea how BMW's nomenclature works for identifying and releasing software. I was merely speculating based on the versions folks have posted.

Surely using the below as an example:

7/2019.39

7 - the month
2019 - the year
.39 - no idea what this means

It would seem odd that there are so many variants of the versions following the decimal, as that would indicate there are multiple software revisions within the same month.

My take is that 03/2019 and 07/2019 are the major versions, and between them they roll out some smaller patch-levels like .37, .38 etc. But you won't see a 04/2019.XX or 05/2019.XX as they are only doing major versions every few months (or even in lockstep with their model changes in March, July and November). So if .38 is coming out in May, that'd still be 03/2019.38, they won't change the 03/2019 until the next major version is released.

But I am just speculating as well.

I tend to disagree on the oddness of it. Speculating with regards to BMW specific but generically speaking this isn't uncommon in software.

Major version number for features and bug fixes and minor number for things like small corrections in text, images, minor imperfections etc. So small fixes they add after releasing the software without mentioning it nor pushing as a separate update generation. It's like the "build number": feature version 3, build 4, for example.

Do you have Driving Assistant Professional? If so, can you check whether the G21 feature (Assisted Driving View) is now available?
I do not have it. Sorry!

First impression: yes. But I've only drove it to/from work and lunch. Hardly enough to see a pattern. But CarPlay connected each time properly, and I've not seen the phone wake up on the NFC reader.

BMW believes IOS13 — possibly in combination with the iDrive update — will solve these problems. That could be just opinion. I am on the IOS13 b5.

I work with software a lot so understand the difference between an actual software version or build.

If we think it's just a build difference, then there could still be fixes in the subsequent builds that weren't in earlier builds. Seeing as there are a lot of ongoing issues, you'd think they would push the next build out as an update instead.

I believe you need to get wireless charging/LTE for this functionality. Doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective, but this been asked and posted a few times here.

I too am confused about this. My M340 is on 03/2019.37 yet neither the website or app is showing any available updates. And without this thread I wouldn’t even know about them. It’s almost impossible that BMW doesn’t have a listing of available updates and what various version are for? Almost every post In this thread ends with a question mark so I know I’m not alone in my frustrations. Can any of the dealer members find out and give us some sort of definite answer?
