Hey gents I’m coming up to change some fluids so first off I’ve got a 2020 m340i RWD.

For my differential fluid ( I heard these don’t have a front differential just rear if anyone can correct me ? ) but anyways I’m getting this here, I’ll be getting 2 500ml bottles

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...mw-83222447362

Next I’m going to get my transfer case fluid changed as well, haven’t seen much info on it but will this do ? And if so is 1 Liter okay or will it need more ?

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ll-83222409710

Also if anyone can recommend what transmission fluid to get or if there’s any kits available that include everything.

Thanks in advance

If your car is RWD then you don’t have a transfer case.

Interesting thanks for the heads up, learning more slowly and slowly about the whole thing lol.

So basically if I’m doing fluid change I just need to do the transmission and rear diff ?
don’t worry about the transfer case or front differential since my RWD doesn’t have either correct?

M340xi rear diff fluid change

Hey y'all, just wanted to share a few quick notes on the fluid change I just completed on my 2021 rear diff.

1. BMW uses one plug for the drain and fill. Which means that they expect you to suction out the fluid. Well, I (like a lot of people I'm sure) used the temp sensor plug to drain the fluid. While not a perfect solution, it gets most of the old fluid out.

2. This was the first fluid change at 20k miles. The fluid was black and very grainy. I'm glad I did it, but wished I had done it earlier.

2. Be careful of reinstalling the temp sensor, I broke mine by over-torquing. Had to get another from local BMW dealer, which was priced at twice I could get online. But then, I wanted it asap to finish the job, ugh.

3. Needed 3 bottles of the 500ml G4 fluid from dealer. So like $180 for three bottles. If I was more careful with spillage and not breaking the sensor, I probably would've only needed 2 bottles.

4. Overall pretty easy and now just waiting on BMW to supply everybody with the G5 fluid so I can do the front diff. Supposedly mid July now, but they keep pushing dates.

What’s the torque spec on the sensor?

Thanks for the info.
I’m just planning to change oil in rear differential, so I want to be sure I do everything correctly.
Please let me know what the problem was when you broke temp.sensor? Only error code? Rear differential lock reduced?

Refer to manual it takes 1 liter. Guys on supra A90 with the same differential fill it with 1,2-1,3 liters.
