iDrive 8 rebooted while driving

2024 M440i GC xDrive. 18K miles.

Last night, driving down the highway using Android Auto for Google Maps but using the built-in XM Radio. I charge my Galaxy 24+ using the center console USB port.

The screens all went black for about 2 seconds and when they came back up it was the normal startup splash screen. "Press OK etc...".

Once I acknowledged the splash screen, everything other than the main display came back how it was. still navigating and same XM channel.

The main display came back in the same drive mode, but it had reset the display to the factory settings.

Anyone else have this happen?

Yes, I will be alerting the dealer, but if there is a known issue I can reference that would be helpful.

I have the same issue even with different phones. I have 30k miles and it does it less since the last update but still happens. Lately AA will not load once in a while and it says Bluetooth not supported. Usually I have to stop and reboot the system. I wish they would go back to climate control buttons/switches. I don't know if 8.5 would be any better.

I have a 2023 330 with less than 10k miles. Had the car over a year and this has happened to me twice. First time it happened to me was maybe 10 months ago. It really worried me something was wrong but everything came back in about 2-3 minutes. It happened to me again this last week. I watched it closely and it went through the same proces you mentioned and was back to normal in the same 2-3 minutes. If it happens once a year, then not a huge deal but still pretty crappy considering what we pay for these cars. If you talk to the dealership, please come back and tell us what they say. I would be very interested.

I blew out my knee a couple of weeks ago and will be having surgery. Once I am able to drive again,I will head over to the dealer and then post an update.
