Accident recently (drive recorder)

For those wondering if the drive recorder is worth it or not, here to tell you it 100000% is! Just got into an accident yesterday, all airbags deployed (even in the empty seats which was weird but oh well). Guy turned in front of me while I had a green light, t-boned him going about 35-40 showed the police the video and right away they said he was at fault. Also emergency services in the vehicle worked amazingly, called 911 before the car came to a full stop, and I walked away with a couple of bruises and some soreness but other than that completely okay! I loved this car so much but now onto better things (also I didn't know cars have airbags in the footwell nowadays and I'm here to tell you they hurt like you wouldn’t believe lol)

To OP, glad the G20 protected u from the collision, and the emergency features worked.

From the video, it appears the other car was way inside the intersection while u approached at 35-40mph, with the left turn traffic blocking your view. I would think urban roads like this should be 30mph speed limit, yes/no?

In regard to the knee airbag, it appears IIHS tests are not conclusive of its effectiveness.

It looks like Illinois Statue (625 ILCS 5/11-601) says urban district has a speed limit of 30 miles, and this:

"The fact that the speed of a vehicle does not exceed the applicable maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching and crossing an intersection, ...."

From the video, it appears with limited visibility of the intersection, a safe speed to approach that intersection should be 25mph.

Based on your car clearing 2 stationary cars with 5-6 feet in between on the left turn lane in a second-ish, it does look like your speed was around 25mph.

Does the drive recorder show your current speed? I run a regular dash cam, but also paid for the drive recorder, just in case. My concern is - display of speed in the video. If i am even 5-10 pmh over the limit, part of the fault would automatically get assigned to me. It is turned off on the dash cam.

Yes the recording can help or hurt.

In OP's case, the other driver's insurance may argue that their car was hit at the passenger rear quad.

In other words, the other driver was almost done with the left turn(and way inside the intersection) right before impact. It would seem the other driver had right of way.

In OP's video, the other car became visible around 0:18-0:19. OP had roughly 1.5 seconds to a full stop, which might be possible at 20-25mph, but it is unclear if OP had applied the brakes.
