What are my options for getting VLD working

Have got a G20 330i 2019 with LED Headlights and can't seem to get VLD working at all. At the moment with oncoming cars the high beams dim till the car has gone back then the high beams come back on.

Have got: S5A4,S5AC and tried coding the VLD options available using Bimmercode and ESys but neither seem to take.

I take it my particular G20 doesn't support VLD and I need to change out the lights or does anyone else know a solution?

Car is RHD in Australia if that helps at all.

Cheers!

To my understanding, VLD (Variable Light Distribution) works only on low beams and you need adaptive LED. It sounds like you expected "glare free" Selective High Beam, which is different. HBA High Beam Assist turns high beam On and Off.

Hmm I may be getting confused with my terminology. "Selective Beam" Is what I am wanting you are right. I used to have this on my M240i which had Xenons in it and with my amount of night driving it was very beneficial in being able to spot wildlife a bit easier. Instead every oncoming car turning my high beams completely off which is what happens on my G20 currently.

I've got headlights on Auto and HBA toggled on the steering wheel lever, oncoming cars dim my high beams instead of my high beams moving around them. Are my LED headlights capable of achieving what I want? Or do I need to replace them with other headlights?

I have the exact same ‘issue’. I have the led headlights with extended features.

I coded the antiglare stuff, but it seems i still only have auto high beam (despite the high beam icon starting on all the time).

Edit: i have the same factory options as you. 5AC + 5A4

Do you have a list of what you coded?

So I did some more digging - based on a coding guide from i_4_talk forum.

And I do have some coding differences.

These are the options highlighted in the i_4_talk forum:

BDC_BODY3 > LUT_FLC_FORWARDLIGHTING_Y > no_AFS to AFS
BDC_BODY3 > C_BLC_PRE_ENA > Disable to Enable
BDC_BODY3 > C_AFS_ENA > Disable to Enable
BDC_BODY3 > C_AFS_ECO_LEVEL_3_ENA > Disable to Enable
BDC_BODY3 > LUT_AFS_DRV_VERT > G22_Laser_US to G011/G22_Laser_ECE
BDC_BODY3 > C_CLC_CURV_V3 > US to ECE
BDC_BODY3 > C_CLC_CURV_V2 > US to ECE
BDC_BODY3 > C_HBA_GFHBA_ENA_V_HI > 55km/h to standard
BDC_BODY3 > LUT_AFS_CODRV_HOR > Laser_US/G007_US to Standard/init
BDC_BODY3 > LUT_AFS_DRV_HOR > Laser_US to F040_G050_AHL/G015_G020_Laser
BDC_BODY3 > C_CLC_EXT_ENA > Disable [00] to enable_roundabout[01]
BDC_BODY3 > C_HBA_DIM_ENA > Disable to Enable
BDC_BODY3 > C_HBA_GFHB_ENA > Disable to Enable
FLM2 > Lmm1_Data > Wert_2 to Wert_1
FLM2 > Lmm2_Data > Wert_2 to Wert_0
FLM2 > Staging2_Data > Wert_2 to Wert_1

KAFAS4 > C_FLA_US_SENSITIVITY_MODE > US to Normal [00]
KAFAS4 > C_FLA_BS_ENTER_THRESH > US to Rest of world [03]
KAFAS4 > C_FLA_BS_EXIT_THRESH > US to Rest of world [02]
KAFAS4 > COUNTRY_VARIATION Europe_RC [01]

The ones in bold are the ones where I have differences.

if we take the FLM2 differences first.

The staging, to my knowledge - are how they lightup when unlocking the car, so should be irrelevant here.

The lmm_data - I'm pretty unsure what do, maybe they need to be changed? Mine is coded at
LMM_data1: wert_3
LMM_data2: wert_1

Then the body changes, Mine are:

LUT_AFS_DRV_VERT: G005_AHL/G029/G020_LED/F040_552_ECE
LUT_AFS_DRV_HOR: F040_g005_AHL/G015_G020_LASER/G07_ECE/G07_Basis-US

So; maybe it is because I have not changed the last two options in the body controller? I do not have laser, I have the LED which is why I have not changed them.

But those are the only options I can see a difference in.

I tried to change the following:

LUT_AFS_CODRV_HOR and LUT_AFS_DRV_HOR to g005_laser.

I'll update once I have tested it.

(my interpretation of the value is that this is a lookup table for the horisontal adjustments for left and right headligt) so should not throw any codes due to the "laser" selection.

I am not sure if you are attempting to enable selective beam (anti-dazzle) or VLD. I believe selective beam is only available on 5AZ (laser headlights) + 5AC. VLD may supported on 5A4.

I noticed you are in Denmark. If your vehicle is an ECE version, then both functions should have been factory enable, if supported.

Well, trying to get both activated

Hmm, you might be right, but I thought that anti glare + VLD was possible to code on the 5A4 headlights. VLD must be possible as the headlights do swivel in turns.

The VLD is not active, no.
