I would think Anyone who is shopping a 5 series has comfort as a priority.

The M550 is a fing rocket and handles good enough and it's a luxurious cruiser.

I'd pick M550 over M5 because, at that size there is a penalty if you try and hustle that car like an M3.

As far as M340; yes it's catching some hell in this enthusiast forum. The typical BMW owner is just gonna brag I got a brand new BMW and the neighborhood will cheer hooray 😁

why does the grill and headlights fit the Z4M40i better?

I understand its the M performance design language, but it looks extremely good on the Z4! I think BMW should have kind of "staggered" the headlights, would look more menacing and also

new M550 and CPO M5 I bet are close in price.

Me personally I only like the F80 M3.

Part of the problem is model-specific and they look swappable from 330i MSport on top to M340i on bottom. At least the gaudy 340i insert appearance can be replaced with black. Then, some outer rim treatment, either more black or body color, should make a good improvement. The 330i also handles the side view mirrors properly. If we didn't already know which is which, I'd say the car on top (330i) has the premium appearance. The minor lower outboard fascia differences carry no particular theme of more/less performance imagery...all this being my subjective opinion of course.

I'm genuinely interested in how these grills came to production. Does BMW have a focus group step in their process? Or does it go straight from design, get approval and then production (I'm sure there are many levels of QC). Bimmerpost does represent only a small fraction of owner's so the dislike could be exaggerated based off this site. It seems like a drastic step from what was working for them with the slats.

Waiting for the first guy to peel off the "40i" portion of the trunk badge....trust me its going to happen even more now.

Overall this car looks pretty good. I see it as a good base for the G80 because once you've seen the wide body of the M3 its hard to unsee it in any other 3 series. Looks like its missing something otherwise...

It will, but it's been that way for decades, don't expect it to be any different nowadays....

I can't tell you how many F30s Ive seen that are debadged and fitted with pseudo quad exhausts or F80 side mirrors!

Hell, the Director of Engineering, where I work (my boss' boss!), has a debadged 3 series with body kit! You would think was an M3 from a distance, and I KNOW he can afford an M car!! I asked him about it , and he just laughed...

Hell, a month after getting my M4 I purposely parked next to a 7 series (I think 740Li) with the ///M logo on trunk and grill, manager of some subway, and he had the nerve to try and convince me he had a real "M" car, with my car sitting right next to his! Either he was a blithering idiot that got fooled into buying it, or just posing.
