I think it will be a software update that you can buy from connected drive. I took a screenshot from bmw configurator website and its just using the front camera.

As Tam says, been available as a purchase option from connected drive in Australia and hopefully will come to the U.K. soon as it's been an option since the G20 came out.

It’s available now (12 April) in the U.K.

I just purchased it from the store.

I don't see it in the US yet - hopefully soon as this seems like a very useful feature as I have S5DN. What was the cost in the UK?

Be aware that despite the promotional material touting the Drive Recorder as:
- "you can see exactly what happened around your vehicle, together with the date, the precise time, the speed you were travelling and the GPS position"

I have found that the metadata containing the speed time and HALF of the position data is not integrated with the video. It also only contains the longitude position, but not the latitude. A question to the local BMW expert has confirmed that this is the current design.

i.e. "With the ACE 2.0, unfortunately..it only shows the videos recorded and no information’s such as date or speed. It will show the metadata containing VIN, gps coordinate longitude, time and date but on a script format."

It's being sold under false pretences.

I have found that my car, and others being sold here in Canberra Australia, have 0.0000 as the latitude. Probably because the product team have failed to allow for negative numbers (southern latitudes) in the data. Hopefully a fix is in the pipeline.

I was just updated from 07/2019.47 to 03/2020.58. Drive Recorder was not available in the ConnectedDrive store prior the update and now is. I seem to remember that when Drive Recorder came out, it was only available on the 3 Series for 7/2019 production or later. Mine is 6/2019 production but appears to be available.

Kudos to BMW for making this a software upgrade but it looks like it won't record continuously. You must manually start recording or trust that it will record in the event of an accident. The price seems fair ($150 in America) compared to buying a two camera dashcam system. I just can't believe they don't offer continuous recording to a USB drive or at least even the ability to loop the past hour of driving or so.

If you have an event you want to record, you can just push and hold the camera button and it will record the 20 seconds before and after. At least that way you're sure its recorded.
