G22 acceleration times worse than equivalent G20?

Wondering why nobody has commented on the difference in 0-60 times between M340 and M440? If I recall it's like .2 slower amongst the Xdrive models?

I know this isn't the most important stat but curious why it's slower since it has the additional 48V system to help w turbo lag? Weight is also about the same between the 2. Thoughts?

The weight isn't the same between the two. The M440i is 1,815kg, and the M340i is 1,745kg. And the difference from 0-100km/h is 0.1 secs. The M340i is 4.4, and the M440i is 4.5.

So the coupe weighs more than the sedan (and is bigger), is slower, has less trunk space, what else am I missing here?

It has the Mild-Hybrid system, which seems to add quite a bit of weight but probably doesn't help with the 0-60 acceleration. It will probably corner better than the M340i.

I guess when the M340i will be upgraded to it, it will be at least as heavy as the M440i is now.

I wonder what it gives up in standing 0-60 times, if it makes that up in passing times 30-50 or 50-70 with the aid of that mild hybrid system to provide quicker boost.

Isn't the mild hybrid system more to do with efficiency rather than performance?

The M340i Xdrive is quoted at 4.1 secs on bmw website

From my knowledge the mile hybrid system is meant to provide boost during acceleration and make up for any lulls due to turbo lag. The efficiency piece really comes into play with the stop/start system which allows the engine to shutoff much earlier when coming to a stop.

On the American website. That's the 0-60 mph time also.

On the German website, the 0-62 km/h time is 4.4 seconds. I just used the German website to compare the M340i and the M440i.

Interesting. Still find it odd, was expecting bmw to list it around 3.9-4.0 for US website. That time is already achievable in a stock M340i Xdrive

It might be slower due to a different method of timing measurement? I believe they did something similar for Audi wherein the cars were quoted with a lower horsepower and slightly reduced 0-60 times (by 0.1s iirc) but there wasn't any difference in the engine or it's output compared to the previous year.

I'm sure people will grow to love it. Remember when the G20 came out. Everyone hated how it looked and said the F30 was better and stuff and now people love the G20.

I thought the G20 was better looking than the F30 from the get go. Being a previous, almost every other brand owner, I just needed to be sold on owning a BMW. Drove one and realized why I needed to make the switch...didn't hurt that I already liked the styling.

Reality it will be quicker when the press gets to time it themselves. I imagine it's rated what it is to create separation for the M4.

This also makes sense but I'm thinking the AWD G80/82 will be somewhere in the low 3's. I know BMW is conservative but you'd think for more $ and bells and whistles it would get you quicker stats?

Guess we will see when there are some published lap times!

In other news I do like the engine strut mounts on the new 4 series. Wonder if those would fit the M340?

Considering the 0-60 times in pressers and the website are just marketing materials I would just chalk this up to right hand not talking to the left. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets quietly updated later this year.

The cars always beat these marks so will have to wait till actual testing starts.
