So to my mind the battery must go flat at some point or switch itself off when it gets to a low level. Based on that explanation the 330e is essentially a 320i when the battery is flat/disengaged..other than the fact the boot is smaller and it is carrying a lot of additional weight around. Another thing that struck me is I wonder would will happen if and when the battery becomes unserviceable (5 year guarantee I believe) - the value would take a massive hit. As I say, I stand to be corrected on this...after all, a bmw dealer explained it to me.... |

There is a nice video from BMW explaining the different modes here. The battery has extra capacity to account for aging, but yeah in the end you have to replace it eventually. Statistically that's after about 8 years, and while not cheap (I guess somewhere around 5k for the parts, but that will get cheaper with time or you will actually get a higher capacity battery since in 8 years we have better technology) it is still significantly cheaper than a full battery swap of e.g. an i3 which is over $20k. Not to speak of the upcoming i4, which has more than double the capacity of the i3 and hence will be even more expensive. Last edited by Flamingi; 05-31-2020 at 02:15 PM.. |

You just need to look at the digital cockpit and see that the "needle" can go below 0 into charge. |
