You guys probably already know this but I accidentally figured it out today so thought I would share. If you click the button to open the sunroof twice, it opens the shade and the roof, same for closing. I have been waiting for the shade to open and then opened the roof so this is more convenient.

It’s always good to share stuff like this even if you think it’s silly. You wouldn’t believe how many people never realized there is a storage cubby under the headlight controls!

You also can tilt the glass roof without opening shade at all.
This will allow ventilation but still protect from direct sun light, as shade is not solid material and allow airflow through.
This worked of F30 as well except shade was solid but had slots in it to do a trick.

Just press the sunroof button in the up direction with the shade closed. It will open the shade slightly and tilt the sunroof open.
