How to name Destinations in navigation?

Am migrating from a '22 M4Cx (iDrive7) to a '24 M4Cx (iDrive8). Many of my old Destinations ended up named (e.g., SoFi Stadium, Portillio's, etc.) but I have yet to find a way to do this on new Destinations in the '24.

It would be nice to name a Destination in the MyBMW app before sending it to the car, but no joy there so far. Alternately, it would be nice to edit a Destination once it was in the car, but again no joy so far. Oddly, I have found that incomplete/incorrectly entered destinations are editable.

Suggestions? TY

why would you move to ID8? You had the best G80 year! I spent one day with ID8. What a let down that was! I feel for you.

Possible work around ...

Create a Contact with a name (used my Android phone; might work in Android Auto), in the car nav system search for that name, select it and activate it as a destination, then cancel it as the current destination, select Recent Destinations and there it is (does not even have to be unique, e.g., same restaurant name for different locations). Optionally, make it a Favorite (star).

This does not work with MyBMW (with sync Contacts enabled), searching, and sending from there to the car. The name does not get included, at least I have not found a way yet.

Is Portillios that good that you have to favorite it? LOL

The only two California locations are mutually disadvantageous for me but yes, two Favorites (escaped Illinois in the '80s). Occasionally a competing Italian Beef place opens here but they do not seem to last long (usually incredibly successful but the owners get divorced ).

Once you go CarPlay, you never go back. And I hated CarPlay at first. Refused to use it.

Apple maps graphics are way better and include notifications for accidents, cops, etc. and you can have navigation started even before you get in the car - right on your phone. You can say “navigate to X” and it will include search results and contact details.

CarPlay will ask you if you want to navigate to a gas station as soon as the low fuel warning comes on. Head up display integration is good. Main instrument cluster integration is slightly limited relative to BMWs own maps but doesn’t bother me.

Alternate route suggestions in real time is way better than BMW.

It’s worth trying it out. You don’t need to do this contact nonsense you have going on.
