Could the LCI 2 interior be backward compatible with LCI 1? (G2x)

Looking like the dashboard is pretty much the same other than just the trim panel and vent design, as the LCI 1 trim can most likely be fitted onto LCI 2 dashboard and pretty sure the other way around. Could some kind soul with the latest documentation access help out and verify if there are 4 pin connector (from vent) and a 10 pin connector (trim w/ ambient lighting) is present in 2025 G2x models? Just wanted to make sure I could do a swap at some point after I receive my 2025 G22 coming from 2023 G42. I massively prefer the passenger ambient strip and the traditional style of vent handles as of why I'm willing to do the swap. Thanks a lot!

It should work, but not plug and play. I retrofitted older ambient lighting (from MY2022) to MY2024 G26. You will probably need some wiring work and coding before autoaddressing.

I'm hoping it doesn't have to come into wiring work if the connectors are changed between LCIs. Just needed to verify if those connectors were changed in the 2025s.

MY2025 does not have ambient light to the left for the steering column as the pre-MY2024 has, so you will clearly need to make some wiring harness'. The passenger ambient light strip is lighted up by two LED modules (one from the centre and one from the right fresh air grille). This is not a "plug and play" retrofit, but it's doable.

The LED modules are LIN powered, and the car is coded for how many LED modules it has (by the manufacture date). You have to convert your ambient lighting to "MY2024" completely. It requires coding and autoaddressing to give them correct address in the LIN lineup. You will have faults with your ambient light if it's not done right.

Thanks for that! I have done the left air vent lighting retrofit on my M240i so I would just expect to work the same in my upcoming M440i since I have the harness done. Would I have to code the amount of LED modules (if it means changing the manufacture date or something?) in Esys followed by autoaddressing in ISTA+ for the interior trim lighting? Also, are there still two LED modules in the newest model, or has that changed to one if you know?

Are you talking about the air vent background light or the ambient light strip under the trim? The air vent background light is "dumb" and does not require coding. The Ambient light are "smart" and need both coding and autoaddressing.

The ambient lighting is coding by Esys/Bimmerutility/Bimmercode followed by autoaddressing in ISTA.

I was talking about the ambient lighting under the trim. It did light up fine after doing autoaddressing without coding if you mean the left air vent lighting. But even then, what would I have to change with Bimmercode, do I have to go to Expert mode? Would really appreciate an idea of what to look for in Bimmercode. Thanks!

But the MY2025 does not have that light on the left side, and therefore no wiring harness to this. You'll have to route wiring harness for 3 LED modules in the dashboard on an MY2025. I guess you don't need coding (and therefore just autoaddressing) on your M240i since you just retrofitted equipment that belongs to your Model Year. That will not be the case for MY2025 where you are going to build back to MY2024 (or older).

Check this thread to get a direction for what you need to code. This thread is for retrofitting MY2022 ambient lights in G26 in MY2023/MY2024s. You have to compare the cafd-files for MY2025 and MY2024 and see the differences in the codings.

Just looked at the thread, that is certainly interesting. Thanks for showing me. Speaking of the pocket lights, where did you plug the lighting harness to? (apart from LED module) I was thinking of adding pocket lights and wasn't sure if anyone has done it until now

You can make your own wiring harness (or in my case, buy pre-07/2022 (MY2022) door wiring harness). LIN bus for ambient lighting is serial communication. LIN goes in to pin 3, out at pin 4, in at pin 3 in the next LED module and out of pin 4 at the next LED module and so on. Each LED module requires positive and negative connection at pin 1 and 2. The LED modules has micro MQS, not normal mqs pins.
