Yeah this was posted a couple weeks back, I believe. It's mildly interesting, but not really a good comparison since the i4's driving all four wheels but is facing the M3C RWD model. AWD makes a huge difference when launching high-torque engines.

True, but if you look solely at the results from the 1/4 mi, it is an excellent comparison since they were 0.2 sec off from each other! I don't think the xDrive M3 would be a fair competitor.

So it was a "fair" competitor because the results were close? I guess if the point is to produce an attention-grabbing headline like "the i4 is as fast as the M3," then sure. But if you're trying to stage an apples-to-apples battle, picking the dual-motor/AWD version of the i4 would necessitate picking the AWD flavor of the M3 as well. And then you could have another one with the M3C vs i4 40 (RWD's both). And then the M3 6MT vs... oh, nevermind.

This is a good visual test, and pretty much what would be expected given 2/4 WD, weights, skill etc.
Another test with the AWD M3 against the i4 (just for shits and giggles) would be interesting too for people who may be cross shopping gas and electric... |

I guess there are the specifications that warrant a close match (e.g. AWD vs AWD, 500+ hp vs 500+ hp, etc.), before the race has begun, and then there are the results that affect when people say "oh that was close" or "that was not close at all", regardless of the specifications? |

M3x would have been a better race, but the RWD Comp is the press car Mat has available. Gotta wonder if the brakes on the M3 are trashed from the car being used in so many tests, though.

That and/or the tires. There's no real explanation otherwise, given how much heavier the i4 is.
