Run-flat summer tires (among same model tires) don't have much of a negative effect on cornering at all. The biggest compromise is weight and ride quality. I doubt putting on comparable summer tires would make much of a difference if at all. If anything it's more likely the specific tire is the issue, not the fact that they were runflats.

I know this isn't much of a review but I saw my CA today and he said they just received their first showroom M340 yesterday and they all got to take it for a drive. He said it has a lot of power and the exhaust sounds great. He said it sounds like his M3.

Nothing wrong with checking out reviews:
  1. You will have a "heads-up" on a few things you may want to pay close attention to during test drive
  2. They are typically going to more thoroughly evaluate car than you can on a short test drive
  3. They typically will explore cars capability, including track work, far more than you can on a typical test drive

Wouldn't base my decision on anyone else's review, but its another data point

Anyone surprised by lack of reviews for M340i? Professional journalists and YT reviews are almost non existence. There are a few owners and dealer borrowed hobbyists reviews but nothing else.

I'll save you some time as to what c&d and r&t will say, "it feels big, comfy, and fast, but the numb steering and isolated interior leaves one feeling disconnected from the driving experience." If you like the car, who cares what they think about it.
Because my driving impressions often mirror Car & Driver's.

C&D aside, most reviews have basically said the G20 is better than the crappy F30 but still does not rekindle the magic of E-chassis generations.

Yeah that was total bull. Many performance cars have put up similar numbers as the 330i. They've clinged onto this BMW armageddon image and keep milking it. When you move into dishonest headlines it's not trolling anymore.

Yes me surprised too ... I keep searching YT but nothing from the known reviewers... just a bunch of individual efforts

They will come eventually. Reviews on the new 3 series have already been done ad nauseum, so there's really no reason for them to rush out anything on the 340. Your average Joe has no clue that it's even a different vehicle.

In all honestly, reading an article as I take a dump is a lot more pleasant than dealing with a salesman pestering you to run a credit check then the follow up calls for the next few weeks.

If the M Town Tour is coming to your city you can just test drive it without the salesperson nagging you:

How do those work exactly? I looked on the page and couldn't find much info. Whats the difference between this and a test drive? We get to drive alone? On a track? Not sure how it works, sorry for my ignorance

Street test drives alone except for certain cars like the M5 and M850i where you have to have a chaperone. Like a no pressure test drive.

That's fine, but given the lack of car and driver attention to the m340i, doesn't it make sense to just test drive it if you're curious? If you get a good test drive or two, c&d's opinion will be less relevant since you have your own experience with the car.

Except then you don't get to drive the car. I suppose there's always toro. Either option is heaps more informative than reading a magazine or website. That is, unless you trust the opinion of a reviewer more than your own..

The alternative is to wait for c&d, or whomever, to publish a negative review on the m340i so that you can feel fully validated in enjoying your f80.

I've already booked a M340i, Z4, and M850 to test drive. I still enjoy reading review articles, call me old fashioned. And no, I don't take them for gospel, and the fact that I'm on my second M3 should prove that. And on the contrary, a good M340i review will mean the G80 will have a better chance of being an even better car than the F80, so I want good reviews. Why would I want anything else?

You are very concerned about others validating their purchases. Most of the time, that's just a projection of your own feelings. It's psychology.

100%. A dealer told me they'll start getting 340s in June or July so we all have to wait a bit longer.

Maybe it was just that dealer. I moved away from that place recently. Good to know they are arriving around the country.
