I'm hoping to figure out how to keep the grill open on the G20. An insane idea...but believe it or not, some M340i owners might not be too concerned about the impact an open grill has on fuel economy. Personally, my budget will be ok if I miss out on that rich $0.00001/gallon in fuel savings. Crazy to consider that some of these drivers are really ok if the car takes 30 seconds longer to warm up too. It's sad BMW is diluting a beautiful product with gimmicks designed by the likes of Greta Van Thurntardburg. |

This just worked for me - leave the car's AC on Max cooling and it should instantly open up the Active Grille. I've check this multiple times, even when the weather was around 50s and the car sitting idle for days. DO NOT GO CRAZY driving around to get the grille to open when there's this easier way

"Sorry officer, I had to go 60 in a school zone -- I was trying to activate my sliding grill thingy."

BMW Dealer service centers say don't ever buy a new BMW. Just lease as parts and labor are far too expensive. They say these louvers fail often and are extraordinarily expensive. They are a little silly since the thermostat blocks flow to the radiator anyway. In extremely cold climates they probably allow the heater core to warm up quicker. It seems like it would make far more sense to have them "normally open." As it stands now they are normally closed and likely closed when they eventually fail, which may or may not produce an overheating risk.

Were you able to get this repaired under warranty? I'm experiencing something similar w/ 330i M Sport, CEL code P05B0. |

Reviving an old thread because I have a question about this. I just got a m340i but it came with different grills than the ones I see most of with; The honeycomb/diamond-looking one.
Does anyone know if mine is an aftermarket or OEM grill and will active Aero work on it? |

I first noticed the Active Shutters on my GF's X4 M40i. Hers will open as soon as she starts the car, even on a cold start. I've only seen mine open on my M340i maybe once or twice on a hot day. No CELs on the dash for either so I don't think much about it. I figure the computers know what they are doing.
