We will have to see how much faster it really is compared to the current generation, especially with mppsk. And also how the exhaust sounds.

How did they get 382HP out of the same B58 engine that I have that puts out 320HP?

So it is a new revision of the engine (called a TU - Technical Update), and it is the high-output version at that. I am not sure that the hardware/software changes have been detailed or discovered yet. At any rate, as you probably know, the aftermarket can assist you with getting more power from your first generation B58 engine. Quote:
Similar to how the G30 M550i arrived one model year after the 530i and 540i, the G20 M340i starts production one model year after the 330i. |

I'm not sure I understand your question about a MY19 xDrive. There will be a MY19 330i xDrive model but no M340i models period until the summer. |

Wish the M340i was out sooner!
I prefer it to the 540i but its a LONG wait...... Also im sure the dealers will Not be doing good deals on the early allocations as production will be limited until it fully ramps up. |

As mentioned by the poster directly above, the European figure is 275kW (374hp) according to the EU press release:
https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...18?language=en That is just a 8hp shy of the the US figure and significantly more than what the Z4 M40i will get in Europe according to the EU press release for that vehicle: https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...ch?language=en The discrepancy is surprising, and I am now struggling to understand how the EU regulations work. |

Funny to see a 382hp vehicle with 7.5" wide wheels as standard
Even though I love my first gen 340i; I'm still intrigued enough to test drive the RWD model next summer for comparison.

The engine numbers don't align. How can the engine have 382 HP from 5000-6500 rpm while having a maximum of 369 ft-lb of torque?
The engine spec says 382 HP at 5,000 rpm. At that specific rpm - 5,000 - in order to make 382 HP, you must be making 400 ft-lb or torque. You cannot SIMULTANEOUSLY make 382 HP at 5,000 rpm and not make 400 ft-lb of torque at 5,000 rpm. I'll use my F80 M3 as an example. Engine specs - 425 HP @ 5500-7300 rpm, 406 ft-lb @ 1850 - 5500 rpm. Take 5,500 rpm since we have the values at that rpm for both torque and HP. Plug in 406 and 5500 and voila you get 425 HP. |

At any rate, the situation appears to be good news for future European X3/X4 M40i buyers. It was previously not known whether those would see a drop in output from their current 265kW B58B30M0 to the 250kW B58B30M1 that the Z4 M40i has been compromised with. With the M340i instead getting what looks to be a 275kW version of the B58B30O1, it seems likely that the SAV duo will also be so equipped when they upgrade to the new TU engines next year. Middle of next year. |

Are they really going with these bedazzled front grills like Mercedes?
Getting a tad ridiculous. New Idrive in the new X5 is also trying too hard to be large like Mercedes. Performance figures of the G20 looks pretty promising at least so at least there's that for the future. |

now the timeline has got me thinking. Do i get this next fall or hold out another year for the LCI of the x3 m40i that will get the same engine and the refreshed interior to match.
