225/40VR19.0 Rear Tires Performance
I was so eager to close the deal and drive the M340i back home. I just realized that my M340i is equipped with Pirelli P7 all season rft and the rear size is 225/40VR19.0.
The majority of the M340i get 255 on the rear. I wonder how 225 would perform compared to the 255. Would there be a significant difference? Thanks for your answer! Last edited by 0xdq; 06-25-2019 at 11:16 AM.. |

That's a major disservice to this car running those tires. Along with the smaller width tires, and crappy all seasons RFT's . You would definitely be limiting your vehicles capabilities in accelerating, cornering, and braking. If you get an m340i, the only tires I would be running are non RFT's Michelin Pilot Sports 4S staggered. Just my humble opinion . It's the absolute best "street " performance tires , bar none.

Yeah, as I'm breaking in the engine I'm gradually pushing the gas pedal harder. The car could easily lose traction. Not to mention it's so embarrassing to have 225 printed on 4 tires when a Civic parking next to me having 235 square set up. I ordered the stock 792M 19x8.5 from dealer and full set of Michelin PS4S from discount tire, going to have them installed next week!

I think you made the right choice. I signed all the paperwork so it's too late(my first performance car so definitely lack experience)...ended up paying extra $3000 to learn the hard lesson... |

I had to get both wheels and tires from BMW. Those BMW approved PS4S are out of stock everywhere, even Michelin didn't have them in stock. Luckily the guy at BMW parts was super cool and he didn't overcharge me too much. Funny thing was that the BMW service department tried to rip me off, they quoted me $1050 to swap the 4 tires: $200 installation $250 alignment $700 TPMS So I just walked away and had America's tires do it for me. It cost about $100+. I should have done what you did haha! Last edited by 0xdq; 06-25-2019 at 11:38 AM.. |

$200 for install not so bad but $250 for an alignment on a new car and $700 for TPMS that can just be swapped. Truly amazing. I know dealers need to pay the bills but come on.

My biggest regret with my M340i is the lousy rear tires, easy to lose traction with them especially when the road is wet. My 4 banger Lexus had 255 rears, don't know what BMW was thinking equipping car with this much power with such tiny rear tires. These should not have been an option period.
I am looking to buy 2 rears, used as soon as folks start upgrading to aftermarket wheels, hopefully soon. The stance with 225 rears is not a good look on a car like this. I didn't even realize my car had this setup until it was delivered since this was an out of state transaction. Other wise i would have pleaded for them to swap it out. I don't need all seasons tires in South Florida either.

225 looks so weak, not even as wide as a civic si. Not to mention the poor traction. It's day and night difference after I upgraded the rear wheel and full set of Michelin PS4S |

Traction loss? That's because you're missing the front differential.
Seriously, though, I was also thinking of replacing my rear wheels to achieve a staggered setup as mentioned above. I might end up buying all new wheels instead, depending on the cost, however. |

So 245/40x19 rub at the front? That sucks. I was hoping to do that for a winter square setup.
What do you mean the technical max on 19x9 is 235? Without rubbing, right? Because 19x9's can fit much wider than 235; OEM rears are 255's on 19x8.5. |
