Honestly, this seems like a sad chapter in BMW's storied history. I can't recall the last time people reacted so negatively to a design change in my 20+ years of BMW ownership.

Because there wasn't this much of a toxic Internet environment in your 20+ years of BMW ownership.

You are kidding I hope....

Mono grille design is not the same thing. Mercedes, Aston and Audi have different ways to play with their grille and they all managed to do it better, or at least they managed to avoid to be mentioned in the worst design books. Some of their models look beautiful.
Audi has a big grill, but blends well with the rest of the car and the whole design has a similar aproach with a well balanced geometry.
BMW is just a mess, the body is one thing, the tailights and headlamps another and the grill looks like was borrowed or made from mosquito screens from Rona. Put in top the horrendous horizontal hood line and that car looks literally like a terrible sketch. And btw, show me where I said something about big. I did not say anything about it. But, I wouldn't deny the fact that big does not work for BMW. Multiple models that are already on the market are the joke of the media...

BMW managed to be a top runner for "Golden Raspberry Awards" in design.
Design is subjective, go to Audi, BMW won't miss you, someone else will take your place as someone who likes this design

I've owned 7 BMWs, 4 M cars, this is the most hideous front on any BMWs. If BMW thinks this won't alienate existing customers, they are wrong. My next car will not be a BMW!

Yeah, if you're going to have your testicles squished against a glass wall, you might as well have them framed just to make sure that no one missed that spectacular event.

That's ok, instead it will bring more new customers: Probably a younger, more open-minded demographic.

Personally, I'll be happy to see people who lose their mind over a grill leave "team BMW."

I'm confused, what happened to this style grill that we saw in an early M3 spyshot. Are they going with a sharp hexagonal grill for M3 but a more rounded design for M4? I personally like the M3 one more, although I hate both of them

Lol this is my favorite reply so far... it truly made me LOL... but I agree the grill on the G80 does look different than that of the 4 series from what I've seen so far.

Wow. I guess that's one way to destroy the bread and butter vehicle in your lineup.

Yeah, I've been thinking of transferring my SMB M3CS, but it would take an offer I wouldn't be able to refuse (i.e., several $$$$ to me)
$721.55 base monthly
23 months remaining (10/30k)
22,188 miles remaining
