In a Mercedes I test drove recently with this feature, they had a little arm that swung out to "lock" your phone in place so it doesn't slide around. Something like this would help to at least keep it in place. |

The wireless charge is great. Charges fast with Samsung's currant phones. Not so great for i phone users. Those tend to get hot and down the line wreak the phone. The hot spot feature comes with 3 years no charge through BMW's amenities. If your in the plans to build your car, this is a must in my opinion.

The wireless charger is slow, yes, most are well under 2 amps. USB-c is over 7.
BUT... having the digital key card, as well as the iPhone key is incredibly convenient. |

I use this, the $14.99 one. Fits perfectly in the space where the charger would normally be. Always works and works fast. It's been a lifesaver. Last edited by dr_frankfurter; 04-24-2021 at 09:08 PM.. |

Strangely BMW never mentions the biggest benefit (IMO) of its wireless charger option, which is the cellular signal booster it comes with: https://fccid.io/2ACC7LTECOMPB0/User...inal-b-2938885

Mine didn't come with the wireless charger. And I don't use the nfc, so it's a good place to keep sunglasses.
I keep my phone under the arm rest in the center console with the usb-c cable, since my iphone 12 comes with a usb-c cable and no usb-c wall adapter. Thanks apple. Anyways I may try a magsafe in the car. That would keep the phone from sliding around if I can think of a good way to keep the charging puck attached to the car's surface

I have a Galaxy S10 and the wireless charger in my G21 is useless. My phone overheats within minutes and stops charging. Based on all the complaints, there should be a class action lawsuit against BMW for the damage this does to our phones and the wasted money we spent on the option.

Does this connect with USB-C as opposed to a 12 volt? |

im going to be honest here. if your phone has a case which is likely it barely charges ngl.
Def useful because lets admit sometimes are phones are dead when we go out. but Id just get a usb-c charger tbh not a necessity |

Wireless charge must have! I find it charges fast and phone does not get hot. No wires is a good thing! I will say the higher ended Samsung phones work best with BMW wireless charge, such as the samsung note series.

Skip it. Better off keeping a charging cord in the car in case you need it. Charging pad in the car isn't good quality and tends to overheat phones. Not worth nowhere near the 500 charged.

I looked at it that BMW financial was giving an extra 1,500 towards options last year late spring during covid. So that option was added at no cost to me per say. I say add it regardless, a good lasting charging brick is 150.00 bucks anyway.

Its not just wireless charger that is provided, its also extra microphone on roof near passenger added to driver's microphone and extra USB in armrest compartment as far as I know. I find Qi charging very practical since Apple Carplay takes so much much power, its kinda unusable without connecting phone via cable which is just a hassle. Also its able to charge through some very thick cases, it charges my iPhone XR through OtterBox defender case just fine.

If I could code out my wireless charger I would. It's junk….I have an IPhone 11 and it hardly charges and just heats up the phone. I don't know why BMW doesn't have an off button like my Type-R did

It needs work and is not worth the price at this point IMO... given the issues with wireless charging and wireless carplay, you save yourself a lot of headache by simply plugging into the cable. I'm finding that the tech features in this car are hit or miss.. aggravating when the car doesn't even recognize my key.. the one feature that needs to work 100% of the time.

I also have the 12 Pro Max. I’m curious as to the types of phones people have that think the charger is good.

However as I said I use it to charge my display key, which it needs a battery every 2-3 weeks or so. It charge it really quick and the key doesn't get hot.. I guess this is more design for the display key than actual phone. |
