This is not correct, the Android app is working. Likely an issue with a specific phone.

I use my phone exclusively to get into my car. Why would I want to carry something extra? Also why worry about losing it and being absolutely f'd by the dealership for 500-700 dollars for a fob that is plastic with a cheap battery and cheap electronics? The fob is going the way of the metal key.. and good riddance

Personally I don't want to depend on my phone for everything. What happens if you lose your phone?

I have never lost a car key, ever. I don't think the key fob is going anywhere but if it did, the card key would likely replace it as opposed to an app IMO. Why would I want to take the phone out of my pocket in order to do the mundane things when I can simply keep the key in my pocket? I don't want to have to "tell" my phone to lock/unlock the doors or start the engine for example. A small key fob in my pocket is fine for me.

The Ultra-Wide Band updates will enable us to keep the phone in our pocket the whole time, so that will be nice when it is working. I do tend to end up using my key though anyway, since it's attached to my apartment keys and I need those when I go out anyway!

Too bad UWB won't come to the current gen cars, it looks like the feature will come with the iX first. Something to look forward to I guess! I really like the key fob for the proximity unlock/ lock.

First off, I just checked & my phone doesn't open my car. I was also slightly incorrect. December 20 is when my digital "phone key" expired & I couldn't renew because BMW was abandoning Android for now

I just want to add a comment. I'm using the new My BMW app on my Android phone and it seems to work fine as far as locking/unlocking the doors, flashing lights, etc. I haven't done much else with it but wanted to confirm that this My BMW app at least is functioning.

I don't think I have access to the digital key used on a smartphone, or based on the latest info I've seen, unless I own an iPhone which I do not.

I am able to use the M digital key card however.

Of course you’d just use your Apple Watch as back up when you lose your phone It works the same to get in and start it

Except for creating music in which I use a Macbook Pro, but that is an exception! As far as smartphones and watches, nope.

Actually it is exactly correct, the app is working fine. If it doesn't work for you then it is an issue with your phone or car. Give Genius or your dealer a call after reinstalling the app and it still not working. You also seem to be confusing the digital key with the Connected or MyBMW app.

I seriously doubt that. Not everyone wants to run their cars with a phone. I also tend to think it may be prone to hacking much more than a standard key fob.

its inevitable, the phone is the hub of peoples lives and the way car manufacturers are going towards screens in the cars it will be a natural progression especially for younger drivers....those cars without it will seem old school and behind the curve...
