I don’t consider the grille hideous. I do consider it cartoonish. It makes the 4er look like a cartoon.

I wonder what they said about these huge grills on the forums on the interwebs when this first came out. I guess I could check with the Google

Actually, a buyer in the market should not care about what others think about this car. Dukec and Van Looy confessed that they somehow determined that only 20% of people seeing the car actually liked the grill. To them that was super ok and the sign they needed to go for it! So don't mind that it's not a car to everybodies taste, it's not designed to be.

When you purchase a vehicle you're not only look at performance and appearance as well, Dukec and Van Looy only target a small percentage of audience only 20% that they after. All I can say is the design team heading to a difference direction away from BMW traditional designed. The sales numbers would tell when it comes out, so far I've only seen one G22 on the freeway's.

I don't believe that "being able to afford it" makes you somehow more eligable to judge about good or bad design. I believe that all car enthousiasts have dreamt of cars that were not immediately financial accessible to them. Does that render their judgement worthless?

Now you guys are making me wish I didn't make that off the cuff sarcastic remark, lol. Of course everyone has an inherent ability to judge design and whether they like it or not. I just think there are those that bash just to do just that, bash something they don't like or can't attain. |

The new grille was a pretty dramatic change and generated a lot of discussion, two years from now it will be a non topic. I was not a fan at first but it has grown on me big time, particularly after I saw it in person. Love it now and can't wait to get one in my garage.

I wouldnt have bought my 4 without the grill.I personally cant tell that much difference in appearance from the old 3 and the g20. A rehash of the last 4 would have been a no sale from me....

This is what I like about the M340i, it's unique to just that model. Standard G20 has the typical kidney grill. |

Interesting website. Didn’t expect this thread to go sideways and turn into a rehash of did BMW f-up the grille or who thinks it’s ugly or nice, but more of a simple math question. The sales numbers to me don’t seem to be that bad of suck in the first quarter in the US for a niche vehicle (coupe) that has sizable group that really doesn’t like it.

The New 4 appears to be a success in the U.S. so far. North American sales of the 4 series more than doubled in the first quarter of 2021, second only to sales of the 2 series cars which nearly tripled, while sales of the 3 series fell by 11%, and the Z4 was off by nearly 70%. Second and third quarter year to year comparisons will not really be relevant as the pandemic affected production after the first quarter of 2020, but if these sales numbers continue, the haters are going to be very disappointed that the styling is being widely accepted and that BMW won’t be apologizing to them.

I see so many trucks and SUVs where I live, and while I think they are great vehicles, they lack the driving enjoyment and precision that a well-tuned car (coupe, 4 door, or hatchback) can have. I'm wondering if people are beginning to realize that SUVs have a higher center of gravity, and thus, no matter what you do to them, they will not give you the same driving experience as a car. |
