2020 M340 vs 2021?

Can someone help with the differences?
I know 2021 has carplay as a standard feature

2021 is much quieter (2020 sounds way better)
2021 also has an 48v electric motor?

Why is 2021's 0-60 time slower than the 2020's?

Are there any differences you guys know of? Do we have new numbers/specs for the 2021?

Besides the obvious exhaust differences

2020 have auto start/stop button
2021 do not

2020 has an internal hard drive to store music on
2021 I believe does not have the hard drive

I think there is something else im missing as well

2020s also have carplay. and android auto now after the update so there is no difference there.

As far as I know 2021 added the mild hybrid / 48v, which is why there is no stop start button. Also the black trim is optionable on 2021 which it wasn't on 2020. Some peopel say the 2021 exhaust is not nearly as loud / aggressive.

Less pops and crackles on the 2021, for sure. Still sounds mean... just not as mean as the 2020.

I may be in the minority here, but I like an efficient exhaust. Cracks and pops come from running the system so rich that unburned fuel ignites in the exhaust system instead of the engine. For me, the only time this is cool is when you're under hard acceleration and downshift, decreasing the load on the engine. If I made my car crackle and pop more than that on purpose, I'd feel a little silly.

But I'm more the executive type than the "boy racer."

That said, I'd did just buy a 2021 M340xi and will probably bolt on a catback. Just gonna make sure I tune it to be efficient.

Yeah typically I would (based on several experiences) suggest avoiding a first year BMW but in this case No. 2020 Hands down is the better choice, build location, tunability, internal hardrive, stop/stop button, lack of unproven starter motor boost, exhaust tone etc....

You forgot the shitty HK audio systems in the '20 models.
I haven't been hearing much about issues with the newer 2021 models actually. I hear more about problems about last year's build.

Internal HD? Never use them.

Build location? I was able to take delivery of a brand new custom order in 8 weeks from the San Luis Potosi plant, I don't care and am not a snob in that way. What has the M340i built in Germany proven to be better than in Mexico?

Stop/start button I was initially concerned about but forgot about it. I drive in Sport mode so it's a non issue for me.

Starter motor boost unproven? Don't know what to say about that but I doubt it will be an issue.

Exhaust tone, that's a personal thing IMO. I don't care really.

The start stop button was removed because the new electric motor makes the restart seamless and unnoticeable. It's brilliant.

With the pace these things are developing I'm already getting LCI envy! Hopefully we can at least get iDrive 8 with an update when it comes out.

2021's mild hybrid system adds 11hp, reduces lag, and adds extra power off the line and when passing. Also helps with mpgs..

^ Are you seriously under the impression the '21 M340i isn't an ICE vehicle? Yeah you made a point that being built in Germany is important to you yet offered ZERO reasons or evidence as to what makes that superior.

By asking the question about where the M3 is built tells me you're not familiar with the M brand.

The M3 is in fact built in Germany so perhaps you are the one not familiar with the M brand

You claim to have owned 14 BMWs and yet really know nothing about the M cars? You have more or less shit on the latest (2021) M340i and gave zero supporting evidence as to why the ones built in Germany are actually better. That comes across as being ignorant just so you know. Have you even driven an M340i?

As for the M3 being built in Germany, they always are. I know that and figured you did as well and were being facetious. My bad if you really didn't know that. Again, having owned that many BMW vehicles led me to believe you'd know at least something about M cars. Yes, after Googling it which is quite easy, you discovered the answer to your question. So now that it has been confirmed the G80 is in fact built in Germany, are you going to get one?

thank you for pointing out the 14 (proud of that) I have now updated my signature to 16 - total slip of my mind and I have now updated

ps- The key to confidence and success in life is to simply not give a f***. So why you are responding to me I can't figure out. It would be best to just ignore someone like me IF you can

As usual, you refuse to answer questions.
Look, I'm not trying to be a dick. I seriously am trying to understand why one feels the German built M340i is superior to the ones coming out of the brand new MX plant. The points you made earlier have nothing to do with the factory location.
