Power Tailgate is one of the best options!

Seriously. To those that can't comprehend why anyone would get this option, you're crazy. Lol. It's one of the best and most underrated, not to mention cheapest options to get for only 250 bucks.

I'm using it more than I had even thought I would. In my case, my garage is a bit tight on space length-wise, so this feature comes in really handy, especially when I've got stuff in my hands. Sure I can grab the inside handle of the trunk from the side of the car when hands aren't full and manually pull it down. But why would I want that when I could simply push a button or wave my foot under the rear bumper??

The reason why I'm posting this is for those that are going to order a new car and are on the fence about this option. Don't be!

I also like that I can both open and close the trunk from the driver's seat. It's super convenient for obvious reasons.

You're right. I didn't even think about opening and closing it from the driver's seat, lol. Chalk that one up for this option.

Is there anything you don't like about the car TiMSport?

Just kidding, keep letting us know what you like. With all of the production issues and uncertainty, I'm trying to find what I want in inventory somewhere. But if it comes to it, I'll end up ordering and need to put a fine point on the list.

Haha, yes, the small bit of gloss black in the left corner of the dash above the left air vent. It attracts dust and finger prints. LOL.

I know it's crazy but I absolutely love this car and everything has been spot-on so far during this short period of ownership. Knock on wood!

I thought you can only open it from drivers seat?

Let me go try right now, I'm curious to know lol.

Push to open, pull & hold to close - at least on mine!

It works like any of the window switches: push down to open, pull up to close

The only annoying part about having the power tailgate is having to stop people from manually closing the trunk.

I also agree with this. When I was looking for my car it was something I didn't really care if I got or not, but now that I have it I do find it super convenient.

I have the button / foot open option, but don't think I can close that way. Still a manual close which is okay with me.

It's one of the most underrated features on the car.

The comfort access "foot open/close" feature is also excellent.

Well worth the cost.

As someone else mentioned the only downside is telling someone not to manually close it.

Is closing trunk lid with the foot or door switch 2021 option?
I had to code it on my 2020.

Are you sure the correct settings are configured? I forget the exact path but basically there's a setting for opening tailgate handsfree and one for closing, so you can choose to have it work for one but not the other.

I included the option in my build as well and I like it especially since you can close the trunk AND lock the doors(not sure if the close/lock button is part of the regular set up).

Anyone know if we can close the trunk via remote too?

Not by default, but it can be coded via Bimmercode in expert mode.

I'm starting to see your point... Definitely a nice to have for when you're unloading and have hands full of stuff. One thing I still don't like about the power tailgates though is the fact that it's so hard to close by hand. Sometimes I just want to use my durned hands!

Yes, you can close it by remote assuming you have the power tailgate option. You can open and close it by remote or foot movement under the rear bumper. I actually didn't know it could be closed by the switch on the drivers side. For some reason I only thought it could be opened like a normal trunk open switch, lol.

The moral to the story is.... GET THIS OPTION.

Haha, why would you even close it by hand if you have the power tailgate? I haven't even attempted to do that. But yeah, it's super convenient.

One additional remark about the power tailgate and one that I find a bit annoying. When using your foot to close the tailgate, it flashes and beeps while closing. Is there a way to remove the beeping during this action? It only does this when using your foot to close it, not when pushing the button on the trunk itself nor the remote. Seems a bit odd to me.

Yes. Works great for me. At least on my 2018 530e, to close it one has to hold the button while pulling it until the trunk fully closes.

Same. I tried it and it didn't close automatically using the button from drivers seat. Only opens. And kick under bumper to open too. Wish it had a close option.
