Technically you can but you will have to live with the error message on the dashboard. It is an important safety feature and if the car starts pulling left/right on the highway, do really want to have to pull over and get out of the car in the middle of winter/highway to check your tires?
Besides, having your tires always inflated at the correct pressure will prolong tire life and give you better fuel economy vs. under inflated tires, which put together more than makes up for the initial cost. |

In case you are sticking with run-flat winter tires then TPMS is an absolute must.
