So is there an estimated time that dealers will see inventory?

So for the UK, if production begins Jan 2020, we could see deliveries for customers March 2020 with the new 20 plate!
That does, however, mean the official unveil has to be very soon. November?

So does this help pinpoint when we will actually see the car or will it just be when they roll into dealers that we get to take a peek? Thanks!

If we think of the M as just another trim level, which is not completely accurate, but from a manufacturing perspective it does largely behave that way, it is perhaps a little arbitrary to work toward a specific launch window relative to the base model's SOP. I say this because BMW is constantly adding new trim levels, engine options, drivetrain configurations across the lineup, and there is no consistency (or expectation of consistency, really) for when those happen. I think the best they can do is to release products when they are ready. As you know, that depends not just on the vehicle development timeline, but the manufacturing, marketing, market conditions, and other factors. Quote:

OK mkoesel, the horse is officially UNBEATEN! You were chastising me for not understanding the production process and we find out I WAS RIGHT! I will be ordering my new M3 THIS coming winter / spring and not winter / spring of 2021 as you explained here:

The move to split the M3’s and M4’s launch make perfect sense. With the M3 sedan having to depend on the 2 door version to end production and then depend on the regular 3 series to be in production it end up with one of if not the shortest life cycle of any BMW and to mkoesel’s point on ROI on a model plus the fact of being off the market for an extended period is bad for business.
As for the risk to reveal the 4 series front that ship has sailed intentionally by revealing the design well ahead at Frankfurt. |

Sure, you were right about the dates. But history was not on your side. You made a guess, and it happened to be correct. But you know what? If you were to read through that thread from the very start, you can see that in the beginning, I allowed for the M3 production to move forward this generation, and I even provided a rationale for why I thought it could happen. However, as time went on and spy shots showed the M3 would share with the M4, I hedged toward a simultaneous release. I stand by my reasoning - it was the most probable outcome based on the information available at that time. |

Since we are getting the M4 this time around I’m quietly hoping that the M3 get the G20’s grills. This will give us a good reading at the end of the M4’s life cycle how successful the big cool grilles ended up vs a traditional conservative design. I don’t think it will happen but if I was Hooydonk I would lobby hard for it to prove a point
