But what about those poor little cold molecules bashing against those other poor little cold molecules and knocking a few atoms off... ;-)

Mine is also a company car but out of respect for mechanical things I'm still trying to be kind... :-)

Better PM me your VIN number, so that I don't buy it as a used car.

One week since I picked mine up and due to issues getting charging points installed at home and work, not yet charging daily. One charge from 12miles to full last night, and so far, getting 38mpg overall, with a lot of manual S-mode driving and plenty of battery control (set at 70%).

Very pleased to see others getting much higher on regular charges, as that will deliver the benefit I expected. :-)

In fact, this is one of my biggest concerns (as an engineer), the use of ICE in short bursts, particularly when started from cold. I don't like using any ICE for short trips, when the engine doesn't get to temperature. I see this factor as a big negative for getting the 330e.

I can see my self running the engine after a start, for the rest of my trip, (say 12 miles), simply to get it hot.

Anyone considered how the engine life will be shortened, by poor and/or short cyclic use?
Ideal scenario Pete probably for 12 miles of pure EV mode only. ICE is not called into action at all in this scenario with a little care I woudl think.

Your post went down a very different path to that it thought it might take when you mentioned the Highlands and cold....I thought you might refer to greatly reduced range in Cold conditions. A few manufacturers have a handy(ish!) range calculator that allows you to adjust parameters such as ambient temp, AC on/off etc. Obviously this will not help completely as they are designed to show how much of a theoretical 310 mile range is affected by this, but it could help to run the figures and assume like4like maybe 25% range reduction in winter etc.

I'd be envious of a standard 12 mile day trip and to my knowledge this is absolutely sweet spot usage for a PHEV.

Final leg is 12 miles. Has to be in the 24 - 36 miles range to make it work locally. I'd like to see over 30 miles in freezing conditions. Don't really think the BMW is there yet.

Longer trips, (typically 120 miles), ICE will be doing most of the work. So little advantage to having an PHEV on those trips, other than boosting performance when necessary.

Agreed.

X5 45e is 50+ miles I believe and a nice B58 up front too!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but to those of you with the 330e, hows the fuel economy working out a month or so down the line?

Not sure I agree with this Pete.

My experience is that over a journey like that the mpg difference between a journey started with an empty battery versus a full battery, would be about 5mpg in my F30 330e. I expect it would be even more on the G20 version.

That would be a journey involving significant sections of high speed running. The battery definitely helps the engine when running in standard hybrid mode, not just for moments of acceleration.

Over 2000 miles I've averaged about 75MPG. Should be set to improve as my Manchester project is coming to a close and I'll be doing more office commutes (where I get 180-200MPG over a 92 mile return route, charging at the office).

Out of interest, I presume you are charging at both ends of your journeys, and driving in hybrid mode all the time until the battery is exhausted? And presumably you're using eco-pro mode?

So if my commute to and work is a total of 24 miles there and back do you think I should be able to do the full journey on full electric? It’s all town driving

yes, you should. remember - every time you brake or roll - you charge you battery.

Yep! Sometimes it doesn't quite calculate well enough and I've ended up having 1-2 miles left. If it looks that way I tend to force into electric mode, but it's pretty rare. I've definitely had a fair few blasts in Xtraboost so it's not pure eco.

Got my brand new 330e last Monday. It has been a pleasure to drive, but today I got a brake fluid warning, saying service was due back on 2001... Was it an easy fix for you guys who had this same problem?

Report to Dealer... quick fix according to those who have had this warning.

One day I'll put it into full electric on a full charge and see how many miles I get.

But on my 46 mile commute (one way) I easily get 35 miles of electric. On a 170 mile trip I got 47 miles. Regen power does add up over time.

Bit colder and darker in Scotland than in Wiltshire, perhaps that's it? ;-)
Does battery regen happen in all driving modes?

Ok, so here's my observation:
Removed from charge - 22 miles of electric distance.
Drove 6.5 miles (with a bit of traffic and a bit of a road at 60 mph).
Parked.
Drove back same distance.
Parked.
Drove another mile.
Parked.

When returned - 11 miles on electric only remaining.

Ended up sorting this out on my own. After complaining to my dealer over the phone she sended me a pack of instructions that I had already read somewhere on this forum, detailing how to reset oil service. It worked flawlessly.
