Also, for those having this issue, I believe there may be a workaround via coding… at least on f30 platform one could force the cluster to use the nighttime mode during the day. Basically nighttime cluster regardless of light conditions.
I believe this did the trick: KOMBI-->3007 KI_Dimmung, 24-->DIM_NACHT_EIN-->Werte=00 In this case the thumb wheel would control the brightness, because that's how it works during night mode conditions. Maybe someone wants to explore this using BimmerCode advanced. The setting may still be there on G platform and worth investigating.

There is now a coding fix, at least on the G05/G06 platform, for this issue that can be done in Bimmercode. I have not tried it yet but imagine it would work for all models with this issue. If anyone tries it please report back.
Headunit - 3005 APIX_CID_UND_ZIN - DIM_CURVE_X2 – change values to 0x00, 0x00 (from 0x1F, 0xC0) Instrument cluster - 3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration – DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE – change value to aktiv Instrument cluster - 3005 FuBi_Parameter – DIM_DTN – change value to 0x7F (from 0x3F) After programming the codes above, go to Car/Settings/Displays/Control display and change the “Brightness at night” to it’s lowest value. Then use the standard I.P. scroll wheel to set a comfortable light level in darkness. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2&postcount=53

I tested it out. It works in m340i.

Question, will the cluster and the screen still auto dim to night mode when it is actually night time (when the headlights are on)? or do i have to manually lower the brightness at night time now? I mean the dimming at day time is an issue, it is also an issue if the screen is Bright AF at night time... |

I'm still testing and im not entirely convinced that it keeps the screens full brightness during day light. I'll continue testing and report back.
However I can confirm that night time brightness switches to a dimmer mode exactly as before, and the little dial still controls the brightness at night. I'd say zero difference at night, which is good.

That is great! I assume if they fixed it, that means the auto dimming should be disabled at daytime, which also means there should not be any dimming in any condition. I wish that post from X5 forum would tell us more in details... Giving us the ability to adjust the brightness at daytime does not mean anything if the feature itself is not disabled or bypassed. It will still dim.. the only difference is it would just take a few secs longer. |

After reading this thread. It does seem the issue is fixed by these codes.. at least for X5/X6.
1 photo shows the sensor is covered and normally, the screen should dim. But it looks fine. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1699186&page=4 I will do mine after my next service to the BMW. I suspect they might need to replace my Amp and do some recalls. |

Ok I can now confirm that if you apply all 3 coding changes on g20 it does work.
I have what appears to be full brightness of both the instrument gauges as well as the iDrive screen during the day regardless of lighting conditions, and dimmed at night with scroll wheel brightness adjustment capability unaffected.

I can confirm this works. Just like how cars used to behave with their instrument lighting - bright during the day, dimmed down at night and controllable with the scroll wheel. None of these fancy daytime dimming using IR sensors. 😂

Ok I've finalized testing and can confirm that if you would rather have a full
Brightness under most conditions BUT a little bit of dimming (75-80% brightness) during dusk, then follow the posted instructions with this slight change: Instrument cluster - 3005 FuBi_Parameter – DIM_DTN – change value to 0x5F You can also use 0x4F I suppose if you want even more dimming at dusk. Haven't tested that.

Seems like this setting controls the "minimum brightness" that it will go down to based on reading from the light sensors. |

I just had Autobahn i3 33% with huper crystal 70% on front window put on and have not had the dimming issue. I am actually shocked because the i3 is supposed to have crazy IR rejection.

While it dims in low light condition, it's not as dark and unusable as before, but at night time it's brightness is not too bright as needing to adjust the scroll wheel too much. I found with 7F, I'll have to turn the scroll wheel to half way at night to reduce the glare from the IC and HU but this makes all the button backlightings too dim for my liking. I have also omitted the first line of the coding pertaining to the HU as I never had too much problem with the HU going too dim. The instrument cluster dimming was the main issue for me. I'm not sure what the second line of the coding does but I've coded it aktiv anyway. |
