Bimmercode cable or adapter?
Hi guys
Used Carly for donkeys on my old beemers, now with the G20 Ive given up they will release codings anytime soon. Got Bimmercode with an Android phone. Wondering what safest or most future proof option is? I have a vGate Wifi but it won't work. Is USB C + Enet cable my best option? Or are the OBD Link adapters better? Thanks |

No wired cable for android unfortunately. Only for apple. Best bet is a WiFi enet adapter. Or obdlink or unicarscan if you’re going Bluetooth and want access to all modules.

Joedeejay ,
For some reason, I can't get to Bimmercode page (tried on both phone & PC). Can you send the Amazon link? Thanks

Connection seems bit faffy but..
ENET cable connection Please make sure your Android device supports an ethernet connection and allows to use a static IP address. Otherwise this connection type is not supported. Connect the ENET cable with your Android device using an appropriate USB to Ethernet adapter. Connect the cable to the OBD port in the footwell on the driver side in the car. Enable “Static IP“ in the Android Ethernet settings(“Connections“ > “More connection settings“ > “Ethernet“ > “Configure Ethernet device“ > “Static IP“) and make the following entries: IP Address: 169.254.250.250 Netmask: 255.255.0.0 Default gateway: 0.0.0.0 DNS address: 0.0.0.0 Disconnect the cable and connect it again to make the changes take effect. Open the settings in the BimmerCode app and make sure the correct adapter type is selected. Tap “Connect” on the start screen in the BimmerCode app. Upon first use a dialog is displayed and you have to allow BimmerCode access to the UBS device. Please confirm with “OK“ and then tap “Connect” again. |

I just noticed it. It seems to be a new addition I think I'll be going that route now.

Mine arrived today, unfortunately can't for the life of me find out how to set a static IP when on ethernet connection. Not sure it's possible on a Huwaei P30 Pro. Dropped Bimmercode an email before I lose hope and have to go down the more expensive WiFi route. Don't fancy Bluetooth, Carly used to take an age coding that way

Joedeejay & VipinLJ ,
Well, I got the USB-C to Ethernet adapter from Amazon, Anker USB C to Ethernet Adapter,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S6LYNC4...p_mob_ap_share I hooked it up to my ENet cable (that I've used with E-Sys) & then to my Samsung S8. Using the settings you provided, established the connection. When I fired up Bimmercode, I went to settings & couldn't find an Ethernet connection-- so I sent Stephan a message. Looking good, BUT more to follow!

I just got my USB C cable today. I need to dig up my enet cable but I'm not too hopeful. I googled my phone details online and apparently it doesn't support enet. I might get a Samsung Galaxy for coding. Let me check it out.
And keep us posted RSnic

EEXCELSIOR!! (and I don't mean make all check payable to the state of New York -- an old joke of years gone by :-) ) I didn't hear anything back from Stephan so I tried something on my own this morning (PLEASE NOTE: I had previously set up Ethernet connection on my phone as above):
So, Joedeejay , your instructions were spot on except for turning on Airplane mode!!! In another thread on this forum, I saw where someone had activated a new audio menu; so I thought I'd give that a try with my HK system. Using Bimmercode (connected as above), I opened Head Unit (HG_MGU), found 3002 AUDIO BROADCAST (NB, not 2002 Audio System); opened that & clicked on Audio-System & changed Alev3RAM (for my car with HK, I guess) to Alev4RAM); and finally clicked on CODE in upper right So, if you have a Samsung S8, go to SETTINGS, CONNECTIONS, MORE CONNECTION SETTINGS, then ETHERNET (greyed out until you connect cable to phone -- BUT don't need to be connected to car) & enter information as above from Joedeejay Now I know it works for Samsung S8, BUT honestly am not sure about other Android phones -- best bet is to check & see if you have a greyed out Ethernet entry before you get the adapter (link posted in previous post) BTW, the new audio menu is terrific Hope that helps!!

How bizarre. The MHD Enet option is a WiFi adapter thats why it told you to turn WiFi on for it. Used the old MHD orange to tune my F22.
Reason you turn airplane mode on is so it forces the phone to connect via ethernet for data and doesn't try WiFi or Mobile Data connections. |

Just used a friend's Samsung tablet. Worked a treat and exactly as the instructions were listed from Bimmercode with ENET Cable selected on the app. None of that weirdness you experienced RSnic hah. Unbelievably fast to code compared to the old vGate WiFi adapter
