Idrive Controls warm after long drive?

Just took a road trip and was in sports + most of the way. Went to press a button on the idrive controls and noticed they were warm, kind of like when the back of your phone gets warm from running too many apps etc (best I could think of to compare lol)

Also the NFC tray was warm. I put the car in comfort and that seemed to help somewhat. Maybe I've just never noticed but I feel that shouldn't be normal? No ac on and windows were down. Also my engine temp was perfect the entire way. Should this be reason for concern? Anyone else experience this?

How long was the road trip? I’ve only done up to 4 hrs straight on this car and I didn’t notice the iDrive controls becoming warm. Probably the heat of the transmission (like in the olden days where the centre console used to become warm, especially in manual tranny cars)?

Was an hour and a half and I make this drive twice a month and typically in sports + the entire way. Didn't seem overly hot just warm to the touch. But the center console wasn't warm, only the idrive controls and the NFC/sunglasses tray

The only thing I can think of is probably the weather plus no AC? I drive 2+ hours straight and I’ve never noticed it becoming warm. But then I always have my AC on and my car is usually cold (AC set to 65F).

I'll run it the same on the way back... don't like taking my car in unless I absolutely have to. Thankfully the dealership is super cool and I have the best SA there which makes it better.

Car has been otherwise pretty flawless w the exception of some minor first year things (sunroof rattle) but I expected some of this going into it. Tranny was shifting seamlessly and working just fine. Hopefully it was just the hotter weather but it was only like low 80's today

Are you sure it wasn't simply the airflow through the HVAC system?

No AC, but did you have any settings that could mean warm/hot air to the rear vents?

You wouldn't be the first user that has been caught out with not knowing there was heat to the rear vents, and wondering why the heat in the central area.

It was more the actual objects were warm to the touch, not the rest of the car. Like an electronic device that's over heating kind of feeling

Update-

Just drove back to the cities and it seems to only be the idrive controller that's over heating. I had the ac on and it's def warmer to the touch than it should be or ever has been in the past. I've reset the idrive system and will see if that helps. Think I'm gonna take it in anyways to have them look at it and to get my system update as I'm on an old version

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this in other BMW's but in my 2019 i3 the iDrive controller always got hot. And that was when I was living in Seattle with no direct sun or excessive heat. It seems like a common thing. I never discovered any issues with the controller so could just be normal?

Interesting, good to know. I reset my idrive and that seemed to help a little I think. It's definitely an electronic type of heat
