Android Auto - Activation needed?
My 2019 330e was upgraded yesterday from 11/2109 to 07/2020.60 while it was in with the dealer for the UK charger replacement and some issues with the idrive restarting/hanging.
From what I read, Android Auto should be present, and my phone actually starts searching for it when it's connected now, but never connects. I don't see any entry underneath the CarPlay menu item under the apps section, which I've seen on screenshots. Does Android Auto need activating like CarPlay did, and has anyone else had to wait after the upgrade for something to be sent by BMW to the car to enable it? |

It should appear in the apps section. Try restarting iDrive (hold power button on the volume knob until the screen turns off).

Your post is a mirror identical to my issue as just got my 2019 330i back from its 1-year service Monday (I'm in Australia) and the dealer updated my iDrive software to 07/2020.60 which should from what I've read have Android Auto enabled but there is no option to launch it from the app section (Car Play is now there, but it's of no use to me). Like you, my phone searches for AA so it can 'see' it should be there (I've got a Google Pixel 4), but there is no way to launch it from iDrive. I've tried to reboot iDrive several times and still no luck,

There is some provisioning on the BMW backend that occurs automatically after the update. For some it happens quickly and for some it takes up to a week or two.

After the OTA upgrade on my M340i, I just went into I-Drive and refreshed and updated the Apps, and Android Auto then appeared on the various menus for Com, Audio and on banner menu when you tilt controller up.
Seems that it is important to follow the process in the Drivers Guide App in the correct order. It's probably one of those times that you should read the instructions before you upgrade, as opposed to after the upgrade when things don't quite work as expected. |

I had the same issue but Android Auto showed up after about a week from when the dealer updated my car. I tried refreshing the apps multiple times during that week and nothing until one day it showed up so I do think it needs some time to get added to your car.

BMW USA has told me that most 2020 models other than X3's will not be getting the Android Auto feature update. Yet I am seeing here that it is not true. My car updates automatically and I am taking it to the dealer for service next week. Should I have them update it?

I also had this issue. Dealership updated my 3 Series to 11.2020.45 on 18th December, but it took until January 5th for Android Auto to become available, so about 2 weeks. I attempted updating apps almost every day, also fully reset iDrive and disconnected/reconnected ConnectedDrive profile and restarted iDrive several times, these didn't work. So I believe it needs to be enabled by BMW on the server side once they realise the car has been updated, guessing this isn't an issue with OTA updates.

Would the US based cars get Android Auto Update as well for over the air? Or do we have to pay some subscription again like the Apple Car play subscription Shenanigans from earlier?

In adittion, Im currently in a country that doesnt support connected drive/mobile app, So how is bmw going to enable android auto after some days? Im stuck here. Any idea? thanks in advance |
