2022 330e opinions? Do you have to replace the battery when it dies?
Hi Guys,
I am thinking about getting a 2022 330e. I am reading it has $5700 in US tax rebates, which would make it a lot cheaper than a 330i. I also keep reading that average gas prices in US$ are expected to get above $6/gallon this summer The concern is I know that when the battery does eventually have an issue someday, it will be more expensive to fix than all the savings in gas. I also know it does have an aux battery so I am wondering does anyone know if you have to replace the 330e batteries in 9 years or whenever they eventually stop accepting a charge? -The car will be a lot older at that point and not worth as much so it would be awesome if I could save that expense and simply remove the batteries, leave the aux battery, and lower the weight of the car, when that does occur(I keep my cars a long time) I am not looking for a BMW to race, etc and just worry about the extra complexity of phev if everything must be maintained over longer periods of time. Just started to do some research and any opinions on 330e in general are really appreciated Last edited by VailDan; 05-23-2022 at 09:46 PM.. |

i have seen toyota hybrids work fine after 20 years and 300,000 miles ...
i have seen EVs work fine after 1 million miles! (except Nissan Leaf they do expire if you fast charge it, or if you live in a warm climate - and if both then RIP) so it won't just die i don't think, it just has less capacity but not to the point of useless cost to replace - umm i won't worry about it, i think the gas savings will pay for itself. in that time who knows what will happen, without a crystal ball. hybrids make sense for people like you |

The high-voltage battery system has a 8yr/80k mile warranty. Do you plan to keep/drive it that long? Also keep in mind the 330e has a 10.6g fuel tank vs the 15.6g tank of the 330i. The 330e also has a lower highway mpg (all gas) than the 330i, which means less range. If you're driving primarily short trips in the city, the e will be more beneficial.
I have 1,800 mi on my new e so far, and I am getting around 23-24 miles on full electric, and around 320 miles/tank in hybrid mode at 70-75 mph. I drove the vehicle home 850 mi from TN to TX and averaged 36 mpg. Just took a trip from Dallas to San Antonio and in hybrid mode I averaged about 37 mpg. On the way home without a full electric battery (unable to charge at hotel), I averaged 33 mpg. The e does take premium fuel, but fill ups are around $40-$45, vs $65-70 with the larger tank.
