These changes should have been done a while ago.

Everyone said there were too many models. Streamline and focus is what they need.

Actually pretty strong sales given how old it is. It's overdue for new model. Still wish they'd offer the hatch, at least for the RS3.

The A3 is very late in the model cycle and is about to be replaced. Things *should* change once it does.

I disagree. The M2/M2C are the best M cars since the e46 imho.

The auto market is in complete flux because of electrics and the fact that everyone wants to drive a crossover or SUV.

Time will tell.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the M2/M2C aren't ultimate driving machines, we’re simply saying everything but the M2/M2C don't feel like true BMW's.

That makes sense but they aren't really selling very many in the first place.

A majority of customers aren't aware of when new models are arriving.

And that said, when you need a car, all that goes out the window.

Not going to happen in North America.

Your best bet will be the RS Q3.

Well, BMW is now coming late to the party with the 2GC, so clearly they see an opportunity. We’ll see if the "if you can't beat ‘em, join ‘em!" FWD 2 Series Gran Coupe survives more than a single generation. Personally, I think it would have been far wiser to have a RWD 2er Sedan with an M2 Sedan as well. At least BMW would have something that differentiates their product from the others.

I've attached a photo of the second quarter 2018 stats that show the ass kickage of the sedan models that were up against the 2er coupe only.

Every single series model BMW SELLS does better as a sedan than a coupe if offered in both variants.

3 > 4
5 > 6
7 > 8

X3 > X4
X5 > X6
X7 will sell more than an X8

And a 2er Sedan would have sold more than the coupe only.

Did I get it right? They are dropping the 8 series coupe/convertible that just went out?

What would be the next bigger sport coupe then? 6 series successor?
There won't be one. There doesn't seem to be a market for it.

F80 M3 (MT) weighs the same as the M2 but yea lightweight is relative. At least it's not a 4600 lb X3M

Yes but people expect and demand 5 star crash ratings. Soo, take your pick!

Maybe, but after all, it's auto journalism, which has no shortage of opinions that are often presented as facts.

That said, I've been a stout BMW fan since 1998, when I ordered my first BMW (a 528i MT). And I haven't strayed, although I've been tempted. But even I, a huge fan, look at some of these new "design" elements and wonder what is going on. I realize BMW has to make a profit and I also realize the Chinese market is a growing one and that base may have different tastes; but really, I look at some of the new overwrought front fascias and wonder WTF.

As for Bangle, his BMW designs are actually getting more respect now than when the cars were released. His designs were certainly polarizing, but at least they were not boring and adhered to an underlying design principle. And some of his most contested styling elements (e.g. the E65 7 series trunk) influenced other car manufacturers. He also designed the E39 (often thought of as pre-Bangle) and the timeless Z4/Z4M coupe (I"m biased of course).

Absolutely.

Unfortunately none of the really good Hot-Hatches come to North America.
