Google and Facebook aren't really tech companies, they are ad revenue companies whose business model depends on selling away our privacy rights. Apple's profit motive is to sell more hardware, and is therefore lesser of an evil. Escort is a hardware company, Microsoft is a software company, BMW sells cars, etc. They may track us for internal reasons like understanding customer habits, actually benefit more by protecting our privacy rights whereas Google and Facebook profit by denying us same, thus have less motive to sell info to outsiders.

So because anyone with a smartphone is already been tracked and spied on via other mechanisms, I'm not too worried about Escort.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, you could potentially connect the Max360c to WiFi without ever tying the serial number to your actual identity, and still receive live alerts (free) from drivers with subscriptions that are catching laser and instant on attempts. Honestly run that plus Waze on carplay and I think one is pretty well protected from speeding tickets.
The problem is that selling personally identifiable location data is a goldmine. Apple may be better than most companies since they've made privacy a selling point, but lots of other companies that you wouldn't expect to be in that business have been caught collecting and/or selling location data. The FCC just announced that it wants to fine mobile carriers over doing this, sometimes in violation of their own promises.

I found their privacy policy:

https://www.escortradar.com/pages/privacy-policy

It's not a great one. It reserves the right to share account information with third parties for marketing purposes. It is vague about whether that includes location data. It also says they won't share your identity as part of the road alert service, but it doesn't promise not to use personally identifiable location data for other purposes.

I sent an email to the address listed for questions. We will see if they respond.

And wow, I got a response from them while typing that. I'm not going to quote it without permission, but the response says that they do not log any identification information from the device itself, and that the data that can be shared for marketing purposes is limited to that which you give them on their web site.

Yes, very similar and there is a write up here on the forum as well.

Some of you are mincing about their privacy policy, yet I'm sure you're also using Facebook, Amazon or some other major internet media site.

Yeah... Not worth sweating over. Your info is already out there in a major way.

As for the 360, no issues here. It learns and adapts to your vehicle. That's the design.

Can only speak for myself but I've never had Facebook or any other form of social media, just special interest forums like this that have no interest in selling my identity (even if they did know it). Also never logged into any Google service.

Amazon is more like Microsoft in my previous example. As a provider of cloud platform services, their business model is not advertisement sales (like Facebook/Google), so they have every incentive in the world to provide user privacy rather than sell it down river.

So while I'm not paranoid about data privacy, with extensive industry experience in this area I know a little about it, and always try to choose the lesser of evils (which means avoiding Google/Facebook).
