I tried both Bimmercode and ESYS and I can't find the proper parameters for the rear lighting... So we're in a holding pattern until someone smarter than me figures it out first.. But based on the lack of progress in new X5 section, it's going to take awhile.. |

Even if you can code rear fogs you will need to take out the light control panel and allow the rear fog "blank" switch to be pressed.
On my F30 I had to do that to be able to get rear fogs to work. Granted it only took about 10 minutes to pop the panel out and shave down the tab preventing the button from being pushed, but just something to consider.

As for coding of the turn signals I dont see why it would be that hard I think its just a matter of time since the G20 is new. I am not familiar with e-sys but on the F30 forums they were able to repurpose the parking lights to turn signals. All they did is go in the Rear Electronic Module (REM) find the parameters for each tail light element and change them. I think it would be the same logic for us as all we need to do is find the parameters for the brake light and disable their turn signal function. You are completely right. It is a matter of coding and messing with parameters. Someone just needs to do it. I am very familiar coding Audi's but not so much on the BMWs. In fact, I am the 1st guy to figure out how to do this very same thing on the MK1 Q5 https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q5-...mbers-2883472/ Quote:
2. If Americans can figure out how to use their rear fog-lights or even know what they are, our roads will be much safer 3. Go turn on your 4 way flashers and tap on your brakes and see what happens...... Yes, only brake light you have then is your 3rd brake light. Rest of them just blink away. Super unsafe if the traffic slows down instantly. In Europe and the rest of the world, the 1st thing you do is turn your emergency warning lights to let the other drivers know traffic is stopped...... but then here in America 4. Pretty much every single country except the US and Canada requires Amber front and rear turn indicators hence the OPs post. So its pretty much a safety thing. Ok, I am done

Hi,
I am just cranking up my coding for my G20. I do know that when I put in European light switch in my F30, I had to code the following in the FEM_BODY: LCE_BEL_LIN_VAR from BL_FLC (04) to BEL_FLC_NSW_NSL (0A) Will check this out soon

That's just to change the variant of the headlight switch not recoding the actual operation. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=23962722 BEL = beleuchtung = lighting. FLC = (automatische) fahrlichtsteuerung = (automatic) headlight control. NSW = nebelscheinwerfer = front fog lights. NSL = nebelschlussleuchten = rear fog lights. LWR = leuchtweitenregulierung = headlight range adjustment (not in North America). |

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. The holidays and this new year have been kicking my ass. I recently got my car back and the lights are done. Shitty part is they had to cut wires and add a separate rear fog switch. I will take a few pictures of the wiring they did, but I don't know yet what they did for the coding side. I ordered a ESYS cord and will attempt to decipher what they did.

I have read what roxxor has done on the G30 which is quite similar to G20's. (see link) https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25931769 On Bimmercode in BDU module under expert mode there actually is an option for G30_ECE_code1 configuration under LIC_LOG_LAMP_2PHYS_LAMP_DATA There is nothing for G20 based on the latest app update. Further, we do not have the Body2 module that roxxor mentions on G30.s So I coded my car using above G30_ECE confugiration above and were able to have the outer tail lights function like they do in Europe. The results were: 1. Brake Lights separated from turn signals (inner turn signals did not work at all) 2. This caused hyper-flashing on turn signals 3. Rear fog-lights still not functional 4. Rest of the tail and headlights functioned as designed. Some conclusions: -I have a feeling that if I actually go buy a set of EU Spec tails, the hyper-flashing will end and I will have amber turn signals. -For rear fog functionality, I think our car's need to be wired up like the G30s. The diodes are there for G20s (at least for my car) right next to the back up lights. -I already have a ECE version lamp switch which has the rear fog light button. -I did not have time to take the trunk liner apart to check for wiring as stated on roxxor's write up. I am going to keep checking Bimmercode app to see if G20 ECE lamp configuration. I am all ears if someone have additional feedback or data.

Two things I don't get are why would the turn signal hyper-flashing, when you rerouted it's output.. That's usually something integrated with incandescent bulbs, in which when it determines that their is a low voltage, it equals a symptom of a blown out bulb, thus, hyper-flash to indicate such, to the user. How you figure that the Euro taillight would change this? Why would the hyper-flashing, bulb test still be used for LEDs, which already run on a low voltage, is beyond me. I assumed when BMW switch over to all LEDs, such warm/cold bulb checks were all deactivated. : Also, I'm hearing various conflicting reports that some owners have the rear fog light LED diodes on their US-spec taillights and now you're saying they don't exist. I would nice to confirm this with some certainty. |

Just my observation. For every one driver that know when to use fog lights, there's 10 that just leave them on all the time. While front fogs on all the time just says I'm a dumbass, the Audi's and MB's driving around with rear fogs on all the time are downright distracting. I'm willing to sacrifice having them on my car to take them away from the clueless.

I think hyper-flashing is happening bec of the small wiring differences and the ECU is possibly thinking that something is missing. I should note that when that happened, I did not get any light failure warnings on dash. For the diodes, I confirm that they are there. I think, we are just missing the wiring like the G30s but that is to be confirmed I should also note thatI contacted Stephan and asked him about what were are trying to do. He did mention that it is possible through expert mode but did not offer any additional details. So it sure is hidden somewhere. What I also would like to know is if roxxor 's tails function as the ROW cars do where the brake lights are separate from turn signals. This is something that I really would like to accomplish through this coding.
