iDrive 6 to iDrive 7

Hi everyone,

My car has iDrive 6 installed. Would I be able to upgrade to iDrive 7 via just a software update?

Or are there hardware components to having iDrive 7?

For reference I have a 2020 302i.

Different hardware. AFAIK, noone offers this upgrade.

That's correct, it's not gonna happen. And those of us who have iDrive 7 won't get to upgrade to iDrive 8 either.

Theoretically, it is possible to upgrade. I've seen some shops on Russia, China, Singapore claiming they can and they actually quoted me for about 5000$.

What it would require. Head unit MGU, Cluster high and RAM ecu, some FSC coding and make your own custom harness and connectors because wiring is different.

"Theoretically possible", but it would require a lot of work and knowledge to properly do so.

I know this because I put a cluster high on my g20 which is only iDrive 6 aswell, and it's not fully compatible but I accepted that.

On the other hand, I've been in contact with this company Andream, and they told me that they are working on a screen for g20 but it's going to take some time. So, maybe in the future we will have this solution available.
