Mine came without zip ties and the gasket was already pressed in place.

Exhaust Fumes in Cabin

What’s everyone’s experience/feedback on the subject concern?

Had a horrible experience with my last vehicle (2017 INFINITY Q60RS), which fully stock would gas inside the cabin. It was hell especially on longer drives. I don’t want mess with a near perfect car experience with my M340i if it puts me back in the same position.

Are you guys driving fume-less, or are you tolerating a certain level of dirty air just to gain more performance?

There is NO smell/fumes with the AA Hi Flow Catted DP either from inside or outside if it is installed correctly.

Had them on my BMW's for yrs with no issues, no CEL, passes PA emissions, no smell

I got my AA DP today but I cannot for the life of me get the AA DP to connect back to the midpipe/exhaust. Did you have any problems with this?

I used a little bit of lube to help get it in better but used a rubber mallet to help push it in more

Did you connect the dp to the turbo prior to making the connection to the midpipe?

Also, what part of the exhaust did you hit with the rubber mallet? there’s no place to hit it directly towards the dp

I connected to the exhaust then to turbo - I had issues with the smell initially, but then readjusted. I hit from farther back, the exhaust side by the nut

You need to get the exhaust pipe expander tool and use this on the mid pipe. harbor freight sells one for $30, make sure you get the one that says it can expand up to 3.5”.

Oh My god I wish I read this before I did it. It was a nightmare pulling out the OEM Downpipe. And I still could not stick the new Downpipe into the midpipe by a millimeter after 6 hrs. Gonna get the expander tomorrow.

But I am start to worrying if I have a leak at the turbo end, how am I gonna remove the new Downpipe next time...

Weird with these installation issues. I got a MAD 200cel downpipe on my M340ix, no issues. Did the entire install in a little over an hour. At home, on my own, no lift, just front wheels on ramps.

No issue with mid-pipe. Maybe I was lucky??

I followed the sequence advised here of tightening V clamp side first and battled over an hour to try to mate the DP to the mid pipe.

What I determined was the angle of the downpipe where it mates to the mid pipe was not straight so they would not insert fully and obviously were out of insertion alignment.

The fix was to loosen but not fully disconnect the V Clamp just so I could get more play from the downpipe. This way it would align with the mid pipe better. Insertion was virtually immediate.

Then retightened starting back at the V Clamp. No leaks, no issues.

Man I need to jack mine up higher for the install tomorrow night. Car was so low I could barely get the OEM cat out, I know it won’t be fun getting the new one in there.

I never took the airbox out, thinking I might at least take out the heat shield so I have more room to screw those 2 bolts on the mounting bracket

Yea might need a little more room. Also someone mentioned to install the DP from the top not the bottom you can try that but obviously have to remove the intake assembly.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Going to try and install an evolution raceworks downpipe tomorrow. I’ve done a vrsf downpipe on my 435i 3 times. Hopefully this will go smoothly.

I suggest installing from underneath the car. I had a challenge with clearance to install the new one. What I did is put the front wheels on ramps and then the back right wheel I also jacked up, that gave additional clearance and made it easier to install the new downpipe from underneath.

It was quite easy, very easy actually. Easier than I expected.

I've just received my AA catted downpipe and I'm planning to install it myself over the weekend. I'm curious if you have any tips to ensure a smoother and easier installation process. Additionally, I'm wondering if there is enough clearance to remove the downpipe with jack stands or ramps. What height of jack stands do you recommend for this task? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I put the car on ramps and then jacked up the passenger side another 6 or so inches and the put jack stands on that side. The vehicle was higher on the pass side. There is enough room this way but it’s still not a lot of space. I had issues with frozen/stuck v-band clamp and frozen/stuck exhaust pipe on stock cat. Took a while but I finally beat the off! lol! New ER downpipe is a little smaller than stock so it goes in a little easier. Had issues lining up dp to turbo. Got it close enough to get v-band clamp around and sinched her down. The stock exhaust was a bitch to get over the new dp. Definitely could have used a pipe spreader. Again brute force won and I got it together. Job took about 2 1/2 hours total with a few good breaks. Have fun and enjoy the process. Well worth it!
