Furthermore, SCOTT has referred to that concept vehicle when talking about the M3/M4 grill. Will the 4er/M4/M3 grill be identical to the i4 grill? Probably not. Will it share proportions? Not necessarily, but it could easily be the case. Certainly the headlights and hood (or in the case of the M3/M4, at least the front hood line) will be shared, so that leaves only so many possibilities for the grill itself (but still plenty of freedom for there to be marked differences, yes).
Thanks for the explanation. I thought I read somewhere that BMW was going to try to create unique identities (different design language) for the electrified vehicles and the traditional vehicles. Is this correct? If this is correct, it will be interesting to see the design languages as they evolve. My thougt is the electrified design language will be more futuristic, but that's just speculation.

Edit: You're in Canton, MI! I used to live in Ann Arbor, MI when I worked for GM in the tranmission controls. Loved the area, but hated those brutal MI winters (TX native).

Yes, BMW's ICE and EV aesthetic will diverge and go in separate directions. That is why I say the 4 Series grill will probably not look just like the i4 grill. However, at this early stage of evolution, there will be more similarities than differences. If we look at the iX3 - the very first CLAR-WE-based electric BMW - it is very similar to the X3. Indeed the grill, if it follows the iX3 concept, will be different from the X3's, but it will be similar in proportion. As the second EV to derive from an ICE product, the i4 will likely differ in similar ways from the 4 Series, though we may see a bit more distinction.

I have been thinking the same thing. The vehicle that people refer to when speculating on the G80 grill is the Vision Dynamics Concept (which it for future electrified vehicles), not the Vision M Next concept. BMW is about evolution, not revolution. I will be very surprised if the G80 grill is as big as some are speculating.
I wanna start taking wagers on grill size.

I truly doubt BMW will follow the front end design that the OP has posted. BMW M vehicles had a 27.2% increase in sales throughout the world two full years ahead of their milestone schedule. They already know people on the forum hate this big grill theme, so they will not risk messing up the new M3/M4 front end.

When you look at the past, you can somewhat predict the future. The M3’s design themes were always an evolution, not revolution. Let's find out this September in Frankfurt.

It's coming. Our resident BMW insider/employee has already confirmed it multiple times. He already told us to be prepared for the controversy.

The next M3 is supposed to be unveiled in 2020, not September.

Officially, maybe. But the concept will be out soon and that's basically the exact car minus a few things here and there. It will be good enough to know if u like it or not put it that way.

The concept is now being reported to be a 4 Series, not an M3 or M4. But either way, it will show us the new grill.

Fingers crossed that the 4-series concept will be there, I’m looking forward to radical updates of the BMW design language, more than just Lexus tail lights, much more please

Doubt it, I for example applaud Lexus for dumping their generic, one foot in the grave designs when they went for the large controversial grill. I loved Bangles cars especially the E60 M5 and so on. Just bring it on as long as it ain’t stale, lazy and boring

This video was uploaded three weeks ago. Seems to show the normal front end on the M3 test car at the ring.

Has been covered before... that's an older mule from the beginning of testing obviously they are still using it (we don't really know what each individual mule is for)
