Sure it does. Everyone's situation is different. Only the individual truly knows if they can afford it or not based on their savings, salary and expenses.

We could all be doing better things with our money than buying an M3 or any luxury car. As long as you’re comfortable with your situation and have it under control. Go for it, if you wait to be in the “perfect” situation , you may never do it. Why did you start this thread. Again lol

Bingo. Too many people turn these threads into an opportunity to a.) Flex, or b.) Lecture.
We're car enthusiasts. Almost by definition we spend money on vehicles that would make any financial planner shake his/her head.

I will say this...whatever your financial situation, ownership of a car is far more comfortable and less stressful when you're not overextended financially. Buying a car that you can barely afford will diminish the ownership experience if you become paranoid about putting miles on it, having to do maintenance, or never being able to replace it if you get in an accident.

The replacing part is what insurance is for right? Cuz if my g80 is toast I am not making same financial mistake twice. Lol.

Yeah normally that's what insurance is for, but some people finance cars at rates that put them upside-down, or roll in negative equity, so even if their car is totalled they still owe. That's a pretty good sign that you've bought too much car.

How many celeries I need to rock M4 sports car? Achieve all the celeries you can given your drive and aptitude for success. Once you understand that equation, buy accordingly. Get in where you fit in and has fun.

Could care less what people make. If you have one, you have one. Car community and culture isn’t about what you gotta do to afford it. We love em enough to find a way to afford it. Different strokes for different folks.

I would surmise that most people are going from a previous car to a M3/M4.
If you had a loan for say 20k previously than your bank usually gives 1.5 more of your previous loan every 6 months.
What you can afford, usually comes down to what the Bank believes you can afford.

Also keep in mind that your money is not actually gone but tied up in a depreciating asset that if you needed to you could sell at any point.
What you CAN afford all comes down to what you are comfortably with.

A good person to ask is your accountant!

With that being said, I make a very modest salary but because of that rule I have plenty of money saved, was able to buy it in cash, and currently have $0 in debt, and owe nobody anything outside of standard monthly bills. But to each their own.
Good mentality to live by but 75 percent of BWM owners would not have BMWs if that was the case.

I pay $3800/yr for insurance on my G80 alone. Age, location, ticket history, accident history, coverage levels, add-ons (modification coverage, glass coverage), provider; all are major factors. Endless variables besides the ones I've mentioned, too. As long as one is okay with what they're paying, it's always going to be an apples-to-oranges comparison.
