The grill is terrible.
The front bumper is a mess.

Not elegant, not beautiful, not even nice. Plain ugly.

is it just me, or does the front of this thing resemble the "waterfall grill" of the Lexus a little too much...?

Official 2020 BMW M340i and M340i xDrive Specs

Can someone please clarify the grill situation for me? Will the m340i only have the the mesh grill and the 330i will only have the traditional grill?

These are just BS computer images.

The real life pics will look better.

The regular 330i Msport already looks good so im sure the M340i will be even more aggressive.

That's not why they put "skinny" tires on the car.

The reason(s):

- cost
- fuel economy
- balance in grip and noise

I don't think the interior is going to match, I just think they'll update the gauges and infotainment system. The X3 M40i is really fun, but honestly I'm sure this new M340i will be a lot more fun since its lighter and lower to the ground. If only The M340i Touring could come to America, it'd be the perfect mix of both the 3er and X3

You're in central Texas. Why even consider xDrive? Secondly, is it really that tough of a decision between an M car and a series car?....unless you need the extra interior space.

An M car is much more expensive?

What extra interior space does a non-M car offer?

Well your last bullet proves my point. The decision goes back to the transition from the e36 back in the 1990's.

I agree with you a narrower tire upfront will make the car a little more "understeery", I was just saying that wasn't the main reason as there's a much easier way to accomplish the same with square tires (as all vehicles in the world). I meant balance of grip and noise as a compromise between both, a wider tire creates more drag (with the ground and against the air) and makes more noise, and is more expensive etc.

Especially because they could use 255 upfront and a wider on the rear to accomplish the same setup, but that doesn't prove to be "better" anyway. A wider tire isn't always better for sporty performance even.

The engine spec says 382 HP at 5,000 rpm. At that specific rpm - 5,000 - in order to make 382 HP, you must be making 400 ft-lb or torque. You cannot SIMULTANEOUSLY make 382 HP at 5,000 rpm and not make 400 ft-lb of torque at 5,000 rpm.

I'll use my F80 M3 as an example. Engine specs - 425 HP @ 5500-7300 rpm, 406 ft-lb @ 1850 - 5500 rpm. Take 5,500 rpm since we have the values at that rpm for both torque and HP. Plug in 406 and 5500 and voila you get 425 HP.
What you are looking at is probably a mix of these options (i am leaning strongly to a mix of the first two)

1. BMW notoriously underrates its engines so the stated values are a likely a mush of crank and wheel power and tq that gets rounded up and down for the sake of the marketing materials looking cool with those flat curves

2. the engine likely allows for overboost in certain scenarios.. eg full throttle acceleration through the RPM band where additional torque wont be a shock to the engine componets but rather a smooth build as the engine spins up

3. they meant to say 5500-6500

Think of BMW specs sheets as marketing double talk... "BMW can confirm that the motor will be making AT LEAST xxx"

This will be very interesting to see how the M340 compares to the F80 M3...if everything that is coming out about what BMW did to rekindle the ultimate driving machine then the F80 M3 is going to plummet in value. Considering it's already the most controversial M and series BMW has ever put out doesn't bode well. The G series (if true) will make Fgens obtainable at bargain basement pricing.

This also means the G80 M3 is going to be 500ish HP. It's got to be positioned between the 340 and the M5.

Pretty crazy! As long as the G80 comes in manual this is looking like a pretty easy decision when my M3 lease is up!

The new G20 3er is a winner!

One thing everyone is forgetting is how aerodynamic the car is.

The cD is something like 0.26(I think). Wind noise is very low inside the car(less then in a 5er)... even at 240 kph, it was noticeably quiet. I spent about 200 kms in a 320d and I was very impressed. The ride was very sporty and even with only ~190ish diesel Hp... the car got up and went. It's a winner. Most models get dual exhausts too. Even the 320d.
