DCS kicks in constantly with winter tires
I have a 2020 M340i Xdrive. I live in an area where winter tires are a must (lots of icy roads and snow) so I put a set of 225/45/18 Nokian R5s on (square setup). With even gentle throttle the DCS kicks in and reduces power, even on clear dry roads. The car is definitely not about to go into a skid. Per the owners manual the front tires are at 36psi, back at 41psi.
I have been searching to see if other folks have this issue and it seems like it is somewhat common. I can do a short push on DSC and enable Traction mode. That does "fix" the issue but of course then I don't have the benefit of DSC on slippery back roads, which is pretty much all I drive on. As far as I can tell 225/45/18 is the recommended size for winter tires and I am running the recommended pressures. DSC is a great system but in this case it is really too sensitive. How many of you have this problem and have you found a solution? |

The power reduction at throttle is probably more due to wheel spin than skidding. Are the rear tires at a similar thread depth as the front?
The 41PSI rear looks to be the pressure for full load. If you drive with light load, the high pressure might not be optimal for the grip or perhaps a difference in effective rolling circumference . If you drive with light load you could try the same pressure to see if has something to do with it. My M440 with square winter setup recommends almost the same pressure, this is when selecting light load in the iDrive. (I'm a little nerdy so I measure the resulting rolling circumference and adjust pressure accordingly.) |

The front and back tires are the same depth. They only have a couple hundred miles use. I’ll try reducing the pressure in the back and see if it helps.

Did you update the selected/equipped tires in idrive? not sure if it would help, but worth a shot

I did update the tires in idrive. I am still unclear on what that is for. Does in simply tell you what pressure they should be or does it actually change the settings in the car for the tire size?

I have this issue all of the time. I have The Blizzak LM005 on my G26 xDrive. I get a DSC warning and reduced throttle on a regular basis.
The odd thing is this is not due wheel spin. I think the car tries to guess, and does this very poorly, at when the tires will break loose and steps in before this. It kicks in at very low throttle when the car is nowhere near close to wheel spin. I find myself turning off DSC before I do things like merge onto the highway. Really frustrating. |

My 2021 M440i xDrive coupe on squared winter tires is not that sensitive. It allows a little bit of rotation on throttle in the rear with DSC on. I have about the same tire pressure rear&front with a light load.

Yeah, very frustrating. The dealer agrees that it isn’t working properly and is trying to figure it out. They aren’t fast but not for lack of effort!
Eventually I suspect they will sort it out. When they do I’ll let you know what it was. |
