max tire tread depth difference for xdrive
Got a new set of Continental all wheel tires. After putting about 1000 miles on them over the holidays, I found a defect on a single tire (apparently dealer damaged the tire during installment).
The dealer agreed to replace the damaged tire and told me that I should be fine regarding any tread depth difference between the brand new tire and the other three, somewhat used, tires. So, they replaced this single damaged tire. I can now measure a maximum of 0.35mm tread depth difference across all four tires (biggest difference is between the newly installed rear tire and the front tires). Will the xdrive be fine with such variance? Last edited by Sam Tango; 12-30-2023 at 08:12 PM.. Reason: clarity |

IIRC, 2mm difference is what BMW says xDrive can handle. Don’t get confused by someone at a tire store quoting the tolerance spec from other manufacturers.
Over the last 3 years I’ve had six tires replaced on my 2021 M340i under the tire and wheel warranty. All work has been by a BMW dealer and the wear has always been within tolerance. At this point I’ve given up worrying about it. I’ll just never buy Pirelli run-flat tires again. |
