Android Auto Spotify issue - audio loss
Hi guys,
I have been searching the forum to see if this has been mentioned before, but I don't think so... In my G20, I'm using Android Auto mainly for Google maps and Spotify. Mostly great (current software ver 03/2021.50) but one frustrating issue since the previous update(11/2020.50) I had still remains: AA connects nicely and brings up the previous playlist and song. It plays for a few seconds...and then the audio stops. The graphics still show that it is 'playing' (play/pause is displaying option to pause) and the track progress continues. Volume is normal too, so it hasn't muted. I thought it may have something to do with connecting to BT/the car's WiFi? Anyone else having this issue? Only way I can find to get around it is to pause, then play, each time I get in the car. Thanks for any thoughts Last edited by Jtcrow; 06-23-2021 at 03:11 AM.. Reason: Grammer |

I am having exactly the same issue. I think, at least in my case, it is because I set up Spotify on iDrive and on Android Auto and the car initially starts the iDrive version, then Android Auto starts running several seconds later and launches it's version of Spotify and just gets confused. I'm planning on deleting the iDrive version (or at least logging off) and see if this changes anything.

That's a great thought, I think I will give that a try too.

It's easy to log out of Spotify on iDrive: in Spotify playlist menu, select the "Option" button on the iDrive controller followed by "Logout". Here are my final thoughts for anyone else (unless it comes back to haunt me): 1. When starting the car up, Spotify on iDrive seems to connect very quickly compared to Android Auto+Spotify 2. Now, there is nothing playing for 15-20 seconds whilst AA connects (fine with me) 3. It seems the issue was indeed due to iDrive Spotify clashing with AA Spotify - so one has to be disabled/not logged in. You can access AA Spotify from the main iDrive menu, so thats fine with me too. 4. SDKevin gets a beer point |

To fix this issue just go in AA setting in your phone and remove Spotify from your CUSTOMIZE LAUNCHER and it will not interfere when connected to the car. So that way you can play Spotify from your Idrive instead of your phone.
My Spotify hasn't been working from my Idrive for over 4 days now so I of to go back to Spotify on my S21 ULTRA but I'm downloading songs to my USB instead but it takes time. Spotify playing from phone doesn't really play with great quality so without it not working on my Idrive I rather use USB because quality is more RICH. |

- music boots faster, - you get higher bit rate sound, - the spotify data comes through BMW's sim card - and therefore won't drain my phone quite as quickly Thanks rico25! |

So, the answer to the original query is, you have a choice: 1. Disable Spotify in AA if you would like iDrive to deal with it. Pros: higher bitrate audio, (near) instant play, data through BMW sim. Cons: on separate screen to AA if you use Google maps. Clock is in place of music on AA now. 2. Logout of Spotify in iDrive if you want AA to use it. Pros/Cons: see opposite from above Personally, I went for the former option. Many thanks again guys, first-world problem solved! (Rico25, you get a beer point too!) |

Now all Android Auto as to do it give us a feature in their settings to enable Full Screen or Spilt Screen, then I'll surely go with with Full screen with Google Maps. |
