The bearing sounds like a probable source of the noise to me. I hope it does the trick. I will post the result when done
Exciting news! Think I will call my dealer on monday to hear, if they've heard about that!
Did you get any answer?

The information flow and service level from BMW is the worst ever! They clearly don't have a clue what customer care is all about. Keeping quite is the worst thing they can do - and that is exactly what they are doing.

I have a G21 with what I suspect is the noise.

Spoken to two dealers and they haven't heard anything about any service bulletin, either.

Jugga, could you try to get the service bulletin number from your dealer?

Is it also a M-sport model?

Yes, M-Sport and M-Sport brakes (320d, sport automatic, rear wheel drive).

What would be interesting is if anyone could record the sound and post it.

My noise is more like a muffled resonance low hertz "whoooo...-like" sound.

I think it's hard to pick up on a microphone in the cabin.

Yes, whooo is also the best way I can describe it. I cannot grasp how they can't detect the source of this noise considering that the dealer has audio recording equipment mounted to my car. I mean, how hard can it be? I can hear it with my ears even at idle... Move the damn microphone around in/at the f*cking car and at some point they gotta hit the sweet spot?!

Are you sure that it is the same sound that you hear at idle?
I hear similar sound also but I think that coupé is picking up everything like a big resonance box. The sound that I hear when I drive could be caused from a bad bearing, but the bearing itself could be silent and only make vibriations into the body and the source of resonance sound could be somehere else.

I wonder the same thing. I also have a similar sound from the engine bay, but it's very very subtle at idle and has a different frequency. The real annoying noise doesn't pick up until 20-30 km/h.

I can't hear it at idle.

It begins somewhere around 30km/h and I can hear it more/louder the higher the speed gets. Sometimes it is a slightly "pulsing" sound but mostly only "whooo".

I would really like to get a hold of the service bulletin number regarding the prop shaft support bearing and to know the name of Juggas dealer.

This service bullentin doesn’t seem to exist, so I have now requested that BMW make a repurchase in accordance with their warranty commitment. No more BMW for me!

Yes, I have given this up. It’s not ok to pay all this money to a manufacturer who doesn’t give any information at all about this issue. I don’t even know if they are trying to solve this.
I send you the dealer in a pm.

Maybe we can help you isolate where the noise is coming from. You can try the experiment that I suggest below. Also, you may have someone else drive your BMW while you listen in the front passenger seat noting if the sound/noise is directional. Also sit in the left and right rear seat positions while the driver does the suggestions I list below.

Try this experiment. Use manual AT mode so that you can change gear and engine rpm/speed while you vehicle speed stays the same.

When you start hearing the sound/noise, keep you vehicle speed the same, but drop down a couple of gears so that the engine rpm will increase. Then note what changes with the noise, if anything. Does the sound level/loudness change? And, does the pitch of the noise change?

Then, keep your vehicle speed the same, but shift up a couple of gears so that the engine rpm goes down, and take notice if the sound increases or decreases in volume level, and if the noise changes in pitch.

Report what you hear. Noting any changes with these experiments may be helpful to the tech/s to better understand where the noise is coming from, and what to listen for.
They won't be able to correct any problem if they can't first hear and then isolate the area where the noise may be coming from.

No sound in the backseat
Sound even if you roll down a hill with the engine off
The sound changes with the speed
It seems that is coming from lower front. But the source could be anywhere, if the coupe/body is the resonance box. It could be the drive shaft bearing even if that is placed a bit back.
I'm afraid that the Touring model is a design failure and that it is a very sensitive resonance box and it picking up sounds that is hard to find.

I don't think the new Touring is any worse than earlier models. I've driven the new 3 Touring (non M-sport) which was dead silent.

That's a really interesting find - that the noise is still there with the engine shut off and in Neutral. The drive shaft is still rotating when in neutral and rolling - so it still could be the bearing.

My dealer tried a different set of tires, not the solution. I have a new appointment in february, there is a servicebullentin that som version of the prop shaft support bearing can cause noise. My dealer is ordering the updated part. Next appointment they will tear the car down and check the part number on the bearing, and if it is the faulty version replace it.
The bearing sounds like a probable source of the noise to me. I hope it does the trick. I will post the result when done
Exciting news! Think I will call my dealer on monday to hear, if they've heard about that!
Did you get any answer?

Spoken to two dealers and they haven't heard anything about any service bulletin, either.

Jugga, could you try to get the service bulletin number from your dealer?

What would be interesting is if anyone could record the sound and post it.

My noise is more like a muffled resonance low hertz "whoooo...-like" sound.

I don't think the new Touring is any worse than earlier models. I've driven the new 3 Touring (non M-sport) which was dead silent.
Good to hear that! I have only driven M-sport sedans and m-sport tourings. The M-sport sedans were silent but not the M-Sport tourings. I have been told that there are M-Sports tourings that also are very silent, but non with M-Sport brakes so far.
Can someone proove me different?

I wonder (and somehow doubt) if any dealers have had a problematic car on a rolling road/dyno field. (Not sure the correct translation of "rullefelt") It would probably be dead easy to determine whether the noise is coming from the drive-train - gearbox, prop shaft bearing, etc. or if it's coming from the wheel arches. On a rolling road the front wheels wouldn't be spinning, which would take them out of the equation. They could even, when up to speed, put the car in neutral and turn off the engine to rule out the engine noise too.

Maybe they know exactly what the problem is. The faulty egr-valve, that causing fires were known by BMW already in 2016 but it took a couple of years until they acknowledged that it was faulty.

That would explain this total ingnorance from them. Typical BMW if you ask me..
